Pierce Lady Jays Volleyball Team 2-1 in Scotus Tournament

by Kallie Edins

The Pierce Lady Jays varsity volleyball team scooted their way to two victories and only 1 loss in the Scotus tournament this Saturday, September 5.

To kick off the day the Lady Jays took a loss against rival school, Norfolk Catholic in two sets, with the first set being 25-19 and the second set 25-14.

Leading the Lady Jays with kills was Morgan Moeller with five kills and Jaya Waccholtz with four. Brielle Unseld also had two ace serves to assist the team with their overall score as well. Coach Zach Weber says, “Norfolk Catholic is a very good team, and we didn’t approach that game in the right way. We were back on our heels and allowed their offense to be in system way too often.”

The Lady Jays, however, bounced back in their next match against the Stanton Mustangs winning in two sets with the first set being 25-16 and the second 25-11. Pierce brought a balanced attack, with Morgan Moeller, Abby Meier, and Jaya Wachholtz each recording four kills. Assisting the team with ace serves was Kennedy Warneke with four and Maggie Painter with three. On the defensive side, Warneke and Kenzie Moeller each had 6 digs for the Lady Jays.

In the final match of the day, the Lady Jays, on a roll, won again in their next match against the Scotus Shamrocks JV.

Weber says, “I was happy with the way we bounced back in the next two matches.”

The Lady Jays volleyball team is on the road this week at the Wakefield tournament on Thursday and Saturday.
