Lady Jays Golf

Pierce Golf Swings Off in West Holt

The Pierce girls golf team trekked up to West Holt on Thursday, September 3, for their fourth competition of the year. 

Competing for the Lady Jays were Alena Peters, Keli Shermer, Rebecca Albrecht, Zaylah Pfanstiel, and Ashley Wacker. The team got fourth overall with one medalist, Keli Shermer. Shermer golfed a 108 getting her up to 10th place, which is her highest place of the year. Coming in behind Shermer was Rebecca Albrecht scoring a 115 getting her to 18th place. Right behind Albrecht was Alena Peters scoring a 116 to end her day off in 19th place. Ashley Wacker and Zaylah Pfanstiel both swung their way to a score of 125 putting Wacker in 29th and Pfanstiel right behind in 30th place. 

Coach Melinda Stelling says, “It’s nice we have a triangular coming up on Thursday to let all the girls practice and prepare for the upcoming Pierce Invite.” 

Swing by to watch the girls as they compete again on Saturday, September 12, in Pierce starting at 9 a.m.


Golf Goes Head to Head with O’Neill

The Pierce Lady Jays girls golf team played in a 9-hole dual against O’Neill on Tuesday, September 1. 

Sophomore Alena Peters placed first among both teams with a score of 48, and sophomore Keli Shermer tied for fourth with a score of 53. Senior Rebecca Albrecht ended with a score of 54, sophomore Zaylah Pfanstiel had a score of 59, and sophomore Katelyn Gubbels had a score of 62. Freshman Ashley Wacker had a score of 65, while fellow freshman Kenna Sedlacek ended with a 64, and Peyton Wieting ended with a 59.

Overall the team scored a 214, as only the scores from the top 4 varsity golfers are used in the team scoring. 

Head Coach Melinda Stelling noted, “I was very pleased with the girls’ scores. They all took advantage of a beautiful day on their home course.”

The girl’s golf team will host an invite on Saturday, September 12 at the Pierce Community Golf Course.
