Pierce Football Team Triumphs at St. Paul

by Kallie Edins

The Pierce Bluejays football team made the two hour road trip to St. Paul on Friday, August 28.

To start off the game, the Bluejays were down by 0-13, but kicked it into gear with a 3-yard touchdown by Tyler Race, along with a point after kick by Cruz Gleason. This put the Bluejays on the scoreboard with seven points, making the score 7-13 with 11:19 remaining in the second quarter.

The Bluejays, with momentum built up, scored again with a 73-yard run from Michael Kruntorad, followed by Gleason’s kick, making the score 14-13. The St Paul Wildcats, however, came back with a touchdown and a failed 2-point conversion making the score 14-19 with the Wildcats in the lead.

But this was the last time the Wildcats would lead. The Bluejays fought back with a touchdown by Ritter Oestreich from a 35-yard pass by Abram Scholting. The Bluejays finished the second quarter again, with a 50-yard touchdown run by Kruntorad, making the score 28-19.

The Bluejays, all fired up, scored another touchdown late in the third quarter by Tyler Race to end the quarter with a score of 34-25.

The fourth quarter the Bluejays finished strong with 3 more touchdowns by David Dale, Race, and Scholting. Keenan Valverde and Cruz Gleason both kicked for the Bluejays, scoring the extra points. Head coach Mark Brahmer stated, “We were quite pleased with our boys’ overall effort and their resilience throughout the game. After digging ourselves a hole early on, it would have been easy to fold, but our young men continued to fight and believe. I’m quite proud of the determination they displayed.”

The Bluejays are on the road again this Friday, as they travel to Columbus Lakeview for the 7 p.m. kickoff.
