PHS Alumni Comes Back

by Kaila Spieker

Laurel (Bailey) Lackas, an alumni of Pierce High, came back to teach special education for seventh and eighth grade. She is also newly married this past weekend to TJ Lackas from Randolph.

Prior to coming to Pierce, Lackas worked as an assistant director at Cardinal Kids Learning Center in Randolph, and she is currently working on her teaching degree from University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK).

Lackas says, “I am happy to be back at the school, but it’s very weird having my teachers that had me in high school as my equals now.”

In her free time she has been working on planning her wedding and taking classes for her degree.

Lackas is looking forward to getting to know her students and helping them succeed.

New Elementary Teacher Allison Koehler Arrives at Pierce

by Ella Gaes

Pierce is very happy to welcome Allison Koehler as a new kindergarten teacher.

Koehler attended college at the University of South Dakota and student taught in Yankton. Her favorite thing about teaching a younger age is watching them grow and helping them reach their potential in becoming independent and mature into little adults.

Her opinion about Pierce so far is that it has been awesome. Koehler said, “All teachers within the Pierce district have been very supportive and helpful.” Not only is Koehler a teacher, but she also is the new assistant volleyball coach. Koehler’s addition to the team has already brought improvement to the table and the team can’t wait to see where this will take them.

Koehler’s favorite thing to do in her free time is to be outdoors. Koehler is big into agriculture, and she likes to garden and has cows.

She says thank you to the Pierce School district and community for being so supportive and helping her feel welcome.
