Willow Creek Festival

by Klarissa Norris

The annual Willow Creek Festival is a fantastic weekend in Pierce. Features of the festival include a street dance outside of the Pierce Locker which will star the Rude Band from Sioux Falls this year. Other activities include the Pierce Historical Society’s Classic Car Show and fireworks in Gilman Park.

COVID-19 impacts have been felt across the state and close to home. Governor Pete Ricketts has issued a directed health measure that stated, “All public gatherings are limited to ten people or less.” This measure will be in effect until May 11.

The Pierce Community Organization hosts the annual festival. The President of the Pierce Community Organization, Kate Siebrandt, commented on the current status of the festival with COVID-19 concerns by saying, “As of right now we are planning on moving forward. We are watching the DHM’s closely and will make a decision at the end of May. The Rude band from Sioux Falls, SD, will take the stage Saturday night for the street dance.”

The dates for this year’s Willow Creek Festival are June 27-28. On June 27, the street dance will take place in the evening. On June 28, tentatively, it will be a kids’ fun day in Gilman Park with a fireworks display following in the evening.
