Students In Control Sponsored By Pierce County Coalition
The Pierce County Coalition sponsored a group of high school stuents as they led a “Students in Control” workshop for elementary students. The theme of this presentation was Popsicle: “Pierce, Osmond, Plainview Students in Control: Lessons, Education.” Each attendee received a popsicle and a message.
The Pierce County Coalition is a partnership of youth and adults working together to encourage youth to make healthy choies regarding alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. They encourage students, “Don’t be controlled; be the controller.”
Pierce High students presented a program on November 7 at the Lied-Pierce Library. Presenters were Ellie Pytleski, Claudia Flesner, Laurel Bailey, Austin Kroupa, Myles Sudbeck, and Caleb Lohrberg.
To third and fourth graders, they gave a skit, “Ingredients for a Drug-Free Life.” And they led an activity: walk a straight line, spin ten times, and try to walk a straight line again. The idea was to show the effects of alcohol on a body.
For fifth and sixth graders the skit was “Party Dude,” and the activity was to unwrap candy, then put on ski gloves and try again to unwrap candy. The message was the effects of alcohol on brain and body.
