Pierce Students Perform At Honor Jazz Choir

August 11, 2008

The first Nebraska Choral Director’s Association Honor Jazz Choir performed in concert at the NCDA Summer Convention at Doane College in Crete.   Students arrived on campus the 13th and practiced with the director Paris Rutherford for three days culminating in the concert at 7:30 p.m. on July 15th.   Paris is a nationally known jazz arranger, director and was Nora Jones’ music director.  There were twenty students chosen for this honor choir and three Pierce students Jonathon Canaday, Josh Bresler and Allison Hubert were members of the choir.  The jazz tunes performed in the concert were “Billie’s Bounce”, “My Favorite Things”, “How Deep is the Ocean?”, “Dearly Beloved”, “I’ll Be Seeing You”.   Our Pierce students sang and performed brilliantly and Allison performed a solo in one of the pieces.  The concert was attended by music educators, many family members (including families from Pierce) Mrs. Jessen and her daughter from Omaha and jazz fans from around the state.
