Bluejays Advance to Semi-Finals

The Bluejay football team and their supporters traveled to Ord for the second time this year to take on the Chanticleers in the quarter-finals round of playoffs. Throughout four quarters of play the Jays scored 49 points and accumulated 598 total yards. The final score of the game was 49-21. 

Starting things off in the first quarter, the Bluejays marched down the field on their first drive to score six points. The scoring drive ended with a 9 yard rushing touchdown by Dalton Freeman and the point after kick by Chaden Roth. The second touchdown also came from Freeman from 38 yards out and a kick by Roth put the Bluejays up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter. 

In the second quarter the first score came from Carson Oestreich from four yards out. The second touchdown came from Oestreich again, this time through the air from Freeman 18 yards out. After the touchdown, Freeman completed a two-point conversion pass to Benjamin Brahmer. The final touchdown of the half came from Garret Meier through the air by Abram Scholting from 6 yards out. With Roth’s kick the score went to 35-14. 

In the third quarter there was one scorer. The score came from Freeman on the run from 57 yards out. With Roth’s kick the score was pushed to 42-14 going into the fourth quarter. 

In the fourth quarter, Carson Oestreich had the only touchdown from 51 yards on the ground. With Roth’s kick the final score went to 49-14. 

Head coach Mark Brahmer commented on the game saying, “I was very proud of how hard our boys played throughout the game, and we were very pleased how they fought through adversity. Our guys fought extremely hard every play. We will have to prepare very well Monday thru Thursday to beat a good Adams Central team.” 

Senior Carter Rohrich commented on how the offense executed the game saying, “We executed just like practice and became confident and everyone gave it their all.” Rohrich also commented on what the team needs to work on for the upcoming game on Friday saying, “Our d-line needs to pressure the quarterback and our secondary needs to keep getting the reads and make some big plays.”

The Bluejays play in rural Hastings at Hastings Adams Central on Friday at 6 p.m.
