Reserve Football Ends Their Season Demolishing Wayne
by Faith Lubischer
In their last game of the season, the reserve football players took down the Wayne Blue Devils with an ending score of 48-0. The game was played on the blue jays home field on a cold, wet Monday, October 21.
Starting the game off a bit slow, neither team put up any points during the first quarter, so the score going into the second was 0-0.
Turning it up a notch, Abram Scholting scored the first touchdown of the game with a 25 yard run during the second quarter, and Isaiah Adams then scored the two point conversion on another run play after the Jays’ touchdown. The second score during the second quarter came from a crazy 52 yard run by Michael Kruntorad. The two point conversion after this run was no good. The final touchdown in the second quarter was scored by a pass from Scholting to Kaden Johnson, and, once again, the Jay’s two point conversion was no good. Going into half, the score was 20-0.
Stealing another touchdown from the Blue Devils, Scholting scored a touchdown by run from 21 yards out for the Jays. Also scoring this quarter, Max Cooper was able to gain another six for the Jays with a 12 yard pass from Scholting, ending the third quarter 32-0.
Finishing strong, Johnson had another touchdown for the Jays with a 35 yard run to start the fourth, and Colby Anderson then ran the ball to score the two point conversion after this play. Adams stole one last touchdown of the night on a six yard run, and Coleton Cooper then ran in another two point conversion to end the game 48-0.
Sophomore, Kaden Johnson, comments on the team’s improvements by saying, “We had zero penalties and only one turn over.”
As this was the team’s last game, when asked how he felt the team improved from the beginning to the end of the season, coach, Grant Doerr, explains that he believes the team was a lot more consistent near the end of the season, and not just his starting players, but his reserve players also.
