The History of Pierce High’s Iconic Bluejay Logo
by Morgan Blecher
Believe it or not, Pierce High hasn’t always had the same iconic bluejay logo as their emblem. Principal Mark Brahmer says that in 1995 their old logo, a P, on their football helmets looked like the G on the Greenbay Packers’ helmets. Because Brahmer was not satisfied with this design, he went to Tim Waldner, the art instructor, asking him to make the bluejay like the Iowa Hawkeyes mascot. Waldner reportedly came up with around 3 different designs for the bluejay running them back and forth with Brahmer until he was pleased.
When asked how he feels the bluejay represents our school, Waldner says, “It gets used a lot so it is identified at Pierce, and I think it looks classy, fierce, and professional.”
Watch out for the Pierce High’s Bluejay Mascot during the first round at the football playoffs on November 1.
