Students Are Ready to Beat Drugs During Red Ribbon Week
by Payten Simmons
Starting Monday, October 28, the Pierce student body and staff at both the elementary and junior senior high will be participating in Red Ribbon week! Red Ribbon week encourages kids to be drug free and teaches the harmful effect that drugs and alcohol has on our bodies. Throughout the week, the elementary students will be participating in a different variety of dress up days.
To kickoff the week, elementary students will dress to the theme “Red”y for Red Ribbon Week” as they can wear as much red as possible. Tuesday’s theme is “Sock it to Drugs”. Students are to wear crazy or mis-matched socks. For Wednesday, students can wear hats as they are “Putting a Cap on Drugs.” On Thursday, students are saying “BOO to Drugs” by wearing their Halloween costumes. To end the week, the students are to show off their school spirit since the bluejays are drug free by wearing blue and bluejay gear.
Denise Bruland, elementary guidance counselor, believes that this week is very important to the students. She claims, “It’s important to them because it gives them the opportunity to make a stand against drugs and making bad choices.”
