Another Successful Meet for Cross Country

by Katie Vogt

The gun went off at the Skyview Lake in Norfolk for the cross country meet hosted by Norfolk Catholic last Friday. The six varsity boys earned 67 points total, ranking them second overall. As the girls only had one varsity runner for this meet, they were not able to compete as a team.

The girls ran first, and Pierce’s lone competitor, Alexus Sindelar, came in first with a time of 20:24. “To prepare for a meet, I try not to think about all the people I’m running against… and just tell myself that it doesn’t matter how I do if I have a good time,” says Sindelar. “Right now, my goals are to be able to run under 20 minutes at most of the meets, work on mentality so I don’t get so nervous during a meet.”

Next was the boys’ race, and Mason Sindelar was the first Bluejay to cross the finish line, placing second, with a time of 17:05. M. Sindelar’s goals for this season are to “win state, get a time under 16 minutes, and place as a team at state.” Next was freshman Gavin Geneski in fifth, who ran a 17:58. “My goal this year in cross country is to make it to state,” says Geneski. Brock Bolling was 19th with a time of 19:04. Ashton Koch came in 45th with a time of  20:14. Carter Jensen ran a 20:39 and finished 50th. Colt Arnold was 57th with a time of 20:57.

The next meet for the varsity cross country team was Monday, September 16th hosted by Wayne at the Wayne Country Club. Then, Friday, September 20th, they have a meet hosted by O’Neill.
