Track Teams Dominate at Districts

The varsity track teams headed down to Columbus for districts on Thursday, May 9, where the boys’ and girls’ teams both placed 1st to sweep the team titles. The girls scored a total of 90.75 points, and the boys scored a total of 147 points.
State qualifiers had to place in the top three for individual events and top two for relays. After the top three from each district were selected, wild cards were given to the next top six in each individual event. This left the Bluejays with many state qualifiers. The state qualifiers for girls were Maggie Brahmer in high jump and 100 hurdles; Gina Wragge in triple jump; the 4x800 relay team of Alexus Sindelar, Callie Arnold, Katie Vogt, and Payten Simmons; Elizabeth Hammer in the 100-meter dash; Alexus Sindelar in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run; the 4x100 relay team of Maggie Brahmer, Callie Arnold, Kenzie Moeller, and Katie Vogt; the 4x400 relay team of Alexus Sindelar, Callie Arnold, Katie Vogt, and Kenzie Moeller; and Katie Vogt in the 400-meter run. For the boys, the state qualifiers were Dawson Watts in the high jump; Logan Moeller in the long jump; Gavin Larson and Logan Moeller in triple jump; Cruz Gleason in discus; Devan Roth in the 110 hurdles; Carson Oestreich in the 100 and the 200; David Dale and Dalton Freeman in the 400-meter run; Mason Sindelar in the 800-meter run and the 1600-meter run; the 4x100 team of Devan Roth, Dalton Freeman, Carson Oestreich, and Brett Tinker; the 4x400 team of Mason Sindelar, David Dale, Cole Vogt, and Carson Oestreich; and the 4x800 team of David Dale, Mason Sindelar, Chris Efta, and Cole Vogt. Altogether there are 22 athletes going to state this year.
The girls’ team had many athletes place in the meet. Starting in the field events, Brahmer placed 1st in high jump jumping 5-04.00. Angelica Volquardsen placed in a four way tie in pole vault with height of 8’. Kenzie Moeller placed 4th in long jump with a distance of 16-02.00. Wragge placed 2nd in triple jump with a distance of 34-06.75. Kaylee Dvorak placed 4th in discus throwing 120-00. The girls 4x800 relay team placed 1st with a time of 10:18.66. Brahmer placed 4th in the 100 hurdles with a time of 15.76. In the 100-meter dash, Elizabeth Hammer placed 3rd with a time of 13.23. In the 400-meter dash, Katie Vogt placed 4th with a time of 1:03.62. In the 200-meter dash, Hammer placed 5th with a time of 27.81. In the 800-meter dash, Alexus Sindelar placed 3rd with a time of 2:29.18. In the 300-meter hurdles, Faith Lubischer placed 5th with a time of 51.45, and Maggie Brahmer placed 6th with a time of 52.09. In the 1600-meter run, Alexus Sindelar placed 1st with a time of 5:46.44. The 4x100 relay team placed 1st with a time of 51.77. The 4x400 relay team placed 1st with a time of 4:11.49.
The boys’ team also placed several athletes in the meet. Starting in the high jump, Watts placed 2nd with a jump of 5-09.00. In long jump, Logan Moeller placed 1st with a jump of 20-04.25, and Brett Tinker placed 4th with a jump of 19-06.50. In triple jump, Gavin Larson placed 1st with a jump of 43-03.75, and Logan Moeller placed 2nd with a jump of 41-01.25. Cruz Gleason placed 2nd in discus with a throw of 147-09, and Colby Richart placed 4th with a throw of 146-00. In the shot put, Cruz Gleason placed 6th with a throw of 46-06.00. The 4x800 relay team placed 2nd with a time of 8:34.34. In the 110 hurdles, Devan Roth placed 1st with a time of 15.54. In the 100-meter dash, Carson Oestreich placed 1st with a time of 11.24, and Brett Tinker placed 4th with a time of 11.71. In the 400-meter dash, Dalton Freeman placed 1st with a time of 52.09, and David Dale placed 3rd with a time of 53.32. In the 200-meter dash, Carson Oestreich placed 1st with a time of 23.62. Mason Sindelar placed 1st in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:01.97, and 3rd with a time of 4:51.10. The 4x100 relay placed 1st with a time of 44.99. The 4x400 relay placed 1st with a time of 3:35.88.
Coach Tim Waldner commented on the meet as a whole, saying, “We had a great day of competition. The girls and boys both winning the team race is an amazing accomplishment, and getting more boys and girls to qualify makes the state meet more enjoyable.”
