Junior High Track Team Begins Season

The junior high track team traveled to Stanton to take on their first track meet on Thursday, April 4. Out of nine teams in each division, the 7th grade girls team ended 5th, the 8th grade girls ended 3rd, the 7th grade boys ended 2nd, and the 8th grade boys ended 4th.

To begin the day for the 7th grade girls team, Kenna Sedlacek got 1st in shot put with a throw of 23’04.00”, and she also got 1st in discus with a throw of 66’03.00”. Also placing in discus was Peyton Wieting, who got 3rd with a throw of 56’02.00”. Mani Weber placed 4th in long jump with a jump of 12’01.00”, and she placed 3rd in triple jump by jumping 27’01.00”. Hayle DeBoer finished field events off by placing 5th in high jump by reaching a height of 3’10.10”. Beginning running events by placing 6th in the 100-meter dash was Abby Watts, who ran a time of 15.31. The 7th grade girls’ 4x1 relay of Amber Shefl, Hayle DeBoer, Abby Watts, and Mani Weber placed 2nd with a time of 1:00.40. Mani Weber also placed 2nd in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:11.41. Finally for the 7th grade girls, Abby Watts placed 5th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 32.24.

Morgan Moeller starts the day for the 8th grade girls by placing 1st in long jump with a jump of 14’08.00”. In high jump, Madison Altwine placed 2nd by reaching the height of 4’04.04”. Morgan Moeller also started the 8th grade girls off in running events by placing 3rd in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.02, and right behind her was Bethany Kaup with a time of 14.50 to place 4th. The 8th grade girls 4x1 relay of Sarah Garrett, Bethany Kaup, Morgan Moeller, and Reagan Theisen placed 1st with a time of 56.39. Morgan Moeller placed 1st in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:07.65, and Raegan Theisen placed 2nd with a time of 1:08.25. Bethany Kaup took home 1st in the 195 hurdles with a time of 31.63, and she also placed 3rd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 29.56. Kallie Edins, Madison Altwine, Autumn Lambrecht, and Sarah Garrett ran the 1600-meter relay together and placed 3rd with a time of 5:05.00.

Leading the 7th grade boys off in field events was Deon Watts, who placed 3dr in long jump with a jump of 14’00.00”, and Caleb Newman also placed 6th in long jump by jumping 13’01.00”. Korvin Fritz jumped 25’01.50” in triple jump and placed 4th. Michael Holkesvig placed 2nd in 100 hurdles by running a time of 19.61, and he also placed 2nd in 195 hurdles with a time of 31.78. In the 100-meter dash, Deon Watts placed 2nd with a time of 13.40. Champion White placed 2nd in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:44.66, and he also placed 3rd in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:42.62. Deon Watts, Keenan Valverde, Kaden Froehlich, and Jackson Zimmerman ran the 4x1 relay and placed 1st with a time of 55.97. Caleb Newman, Michael Holkesvig, Keenan Valverde, and Kaden Froehlich ran the 1600-meter relay and placed 3rd with a time of 4:40.60.

Beginning the day for the 8th grade boys was Bode Hoffmann, who placed 4th in shot put with a throw of 34’06.00”, and close behind him was Dawson Raabe with a throw of 33’08.50”. Carter Meier placed 1st in discus with a throw of 128’06.00”, and Dawson Raabe placed 2nd with a throw of 126’05.00”. Trevin Larson jumped 15’08.50” in long jump and placed 3rd, and not far behind was Addison Croghan with a jump of 15’02.00”. Trevin Larson placed 3rd in triple jump with a jump of 34’08.00”, and also placing 6th in triple jump was Luke Endorf with a jump 32’07.00”. Ending the field events was Abram Scholting in high jump with 4th and a height of 5’00.00”. Abram Scholting also placed 4th in 100 hurdles with a time of 16.69. Keaton Weeder placed 3rd in the 100-meter dash by running a time of 12.38. In the 1600-meter run, Gavin Geneski placed 3rd with a time of 5:32.34, and also placing 6th in this race was Colby Anderson with a time of 5:46.43. Parker Sackville, Luke Endorf, Grant Snodgrass, and Keaton Weeder ran the 4x1 relay and placed 2nd with a time of 51.09. Abram Scholting placed 5th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 58.90. Keaton Weeder placed 4th in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.75. Luke Endorf, Parker Sackville, Keaton Weeder, and Abram Scholting ran the 1600-meter relay and placed 1st with a time of 4:05.78.

Coach Brenda Fleecs said, “The first track meet went very well considering we only had ten days to get the kids ready.”

The junior high track team’s next meet will be Tuesday, April 18, in Battle Creek beginning at 11 a.m.
