ESU 8 High School Quiz Bowl

by Sarah Miller

Pierce’s senior high quiz bowl team competed at Neligh on Wednesday, March 13, where they began the ESU 8 competition but had to leave early because of the flooding of the roads in Nebraska.

The students who went to the quiz bowl included Abigail Meier, Shawn Rinkel, Samantha Svendsen, Dean Orwig, Katherine Christian, and Stefanie Rinkel.

Topics ranged across several subjects for the quiz bowl. Quiz bowl sponsor Mrs. Crys Bauermeister said, “It is all just random, so it could be anything form language arts, mathematics, history, geography, sciences.”

In the first round of competition, the team competed against Norfolk. The team won that round 40-15, and went to the next round against Battle Creek. In the second round, the team competed against Battle Creek, where they lost 5-30. After the second round, the team had to go home because of the severe flooding conditions.

Because of the early cutoff of competition, teams were randomly chosen from the undefeated schools to advance to the state competition, and these ended up being Clearwater and Battle Creek.
