National Honor Society Reads to Elementary

by Elizabeth Hammer

Pierce High’s National Honor Society members, along with advisor Tom Edmisten, went down to Pierce Elementary School on Thursday, February 28, to read books to all of the classes in celebration of Dr. Seuss Day.

The club was split into groups, and each person or group was assigned a certain class ranging from preschool to sixth grade. After introducing themselves to the class, most of the elementary students were put into groups with an NHS member. In the older classes, an NHS member would just introduce him or herself and read to the whole class.

The NHS participates in this activity annually, as the pillars of their group include character, service, and leadership. This experience gives them the opportunity to demonstrate all three.

National Honor Society sponsor Mr. Edmisten said, “I think the reading sessions went very well. I'm sure the kids are thrilled to see the high schoolers come down to read.”
