Bluejay Wrestlers Compete at State Tournament

Six PHS wrestlers went down to the Omaha CHI Health Center Arena and competed at the state tournament. As a team, the Bluejays fell one place short of top ten by four points.

The Jays had a strong showing at state. Going into Friday night’s matches, three Bluejays remained undefeated and wrestled in the semifinals. As a result, the Jays brought home three medals, with Ryder Fuchs placing 3rd, Brock Bolling placing 5th, and Brett Tinker placing 6th.

Individual results were as follows: At 195, in the championship round one, Ryder Fuchs defeated Luis Torrez of Doniphan-Trumbull. In the quarterfinals he defeated Evan Fisher of Chase County. In the semifinals, Fuchs fell to Haydn Deinert of Malcolm but picked back up the momentum in the consolation semifinals and defeated Andrew Cone of Logan View and for the third place match defeated Matthew Feldner of Kearney Catholic.

At 106, in the championship round one, Brock Bolling defeated Trevin Edwards of Loomis/Bertrand. In the quarterfinal match, he defeated Wyatt Schoepf of Centennial. Bolling lost to Dylan Ancheta of Wood River in the semifinal match. Boiling also fell to Julio Reyes of Johnson County Central in the consolation semifinals. He gained back his win to take 5th place over Hunter Vandenberg of Aquinas Catholic.

At 160, Brett Tinker won his championship round one. He defeated Kelen Meyer of Ord. In the quarterfinal match, Tinker defeated Isaiah Borgmann of Stanton. In the semifinals, Tinker lost to Dylan Vodika of David City. He fell to Brady Hull of Logan View in the consolation semifinal match. He also fell to Conner Halverson of Gordon-Rushville in the fifth place match.

At 126, Carter Jensen fell to Justin Davis of Hemingford in championship round one. Jensen came back and won in his consolation rounds one and two against Carter King of Battle Creek and Martin Valencia of Logan View. Jensen fell in his consolation round three match to Cameron Schrad of Aquinas Catholic.

At 145, Ashton Schweitzer wrestled Justin White of David City and Kyle Sterup of Cross County/Osceola but fell to both.

At 220, Dylan Kuehler wrestled Kalten Bauers of Centennial and Wayne Moore of David City but fell to both.

Coach Tyler Legate said, “It was a good year overall. We lost a lot of close matches, but overall it was not a lack of effort. I was proud of their effort, and I found some things at the end of matches that I could work on.”
