Wrestlers Get Runner-Up in Mid-States

The wrestling team traveled to Wayne to take on their Mid-State conference opponents on Thursday, January 31. Pierce placed 2nd in the meet with 175 points behind champions Battle Creek.

Individually, Brett Tinker and Ryder Fuchs placed 1st in their brackets; Brock Bolling and Carter Jensen placed 2nd; Devin Graae, Jeremiah Kruntorad, Nelson Emerson and Dylan Kuehler got 3rd; Ethan Dohmen, Michael Kruntorad, Ashton Schweitzer and Cole Cheney placed 4th.

At 106, Brock Bolling won by decision over Gavin Dozler of Boone Central, and also won by decision against Ty Rainforth of O’Neill.

At 113, Devin Graae lost by fall to Boston Reeves of Battle Creek and also lost by fall to Isaiah Adams of Pierce. In his last match for the day, Graae won by fall over Nathan Wetjen of Norfolk Catholic.

At 120, Ethan Dohmen lost by fall to Caydon McCracken from Battle Creek. Dohmen won over Caden Meinke from Battle Creek by fall. In his final match, Dohmen lost to Will Grape from Boone Central by fall.

At 126, Carter Jensen won his first two matches by fall against Korbyn Battershaw of Battle Creek and Kerby Hochstein of Hartington Cedar Catholic. In his final match, Jensen fell to Carter King from Battle Creek.

At 132, Jeremiah Kruntorad won by decision against Brandon Wacker of Wayne. J. Kruntorad fell to Brady Thompson of O’Neill by decision. He then turned around to win in sudden victory against Tyson Sauser from Crofton-Bloomfield and won by medical forfeit over Tyson Haddix. Also at 132, Mason Sedlacek lost to Tyson Sauser of Crofton-Bloomfield by decision. Sedlacek won by fall over Michael Brengelman of Boone Central. In his final match, Sedlacek lost to Brandon Wacker of Wayne.  

At 138, Michael Kruntorad won by fall over WIlliam Poppe of Crofton-Bloomfield but then lost by tech fall to Juan Vergara of Wayne. He came back to win by fall over Ethan Baumert of Guardian Angel Central Catholic but lost by major decision by Wyatt Smydra of Norfolk Catholic.

At 145, Ashton Schweitzer won by fall over Jaden Jones of Pierce and Tanner Storjohann of O’Neill. Schweitzer lost to Turner Korth of Hartington Cedar Catholic but then won by decision over Kobe Thompson of Battle Creek. For his final match, Schweitzer lost by decision to Damon Crawford of Guardian Angels Central Catholic. Also at 145, Jaden Jones lost to Ashton Schweitzer of Pierce and lost by fall to Kobe Thompson of Battle Creek.

At 152, Aiden Gnat lost by decision to Noah Wattier of Norfolk Catholic and lost by fall to Cooper Zara of Wayne.

At 160, Nelson Emerson won by fall over Enrique Sanchez of O’Neill. Emerson lost by decision to Morgan Koch of Hartington Cedar Catholic. Emerson came back to win by fall over Tim Windheuser of Pierce and Traven Croghan of Battle Creek. Also at 160, Tim Windheuser lost by fall to Reid Korth of Wayne, but then won by fall over Landin Pribnow of Boone Central. In his last match, Windheuser lost by fall to Nelson Emerson of Pierce.

At 170, Brett Tinker won by fall over Taylor Weber of Boone Central, Yuset Arellanes of Crofton-Bloomfield, and Kase Thompson of Battle Creek.

At 182, Cole Cheney lost by fall to AJ Hawthorne of Battle Creek but came back for a win by decision over Calvin Dather of Crofton-Bloomfield. Cheney lost to Riley Davis of O’Neill in his final match

At 195, Ryder Fuchs won by fall over Dustin Jensen of Pierce, Bryce Kennedy of Boone Central, and Joey Otero of Norfolk Catholic. Also at 195, Dustin Jensen lost by fall to Ryder Fuchs of Pierce and Jack Baumert of Guardian Angels Central Catholic.

At 220, Dylan Kuehler lost to Austin Marx of Battle Creek but came back to win his final two by fall against Isaac Wilcox of Norfolk Catholic and Jared Janssen of Crofton-Bloomfield.

At 285, Jacob Kerber lost by decision to Cole Greek of Boone Central and lost by fall to Jalen Robinson of Norfolk Catholic. Also at 285, Nick Erickson lost by fall to Dahlas Zlomke of Battle Creek and Jalen Robinson of Norfolk Catholic.

The Bluejays will take to the mat again at districts on Friday, February 8, and Saturday, February 9, at David City Aquinas.
