The Pierce National Honor Society inducted 24 new members on Friday, January 25, at Pierce High School.
To be a part of the National Honor Society, members must have a 3.0 GPA and show personal characteristics of scholarship, character, service, and leadership.
The new members that were inducted included sophomores Colt Arnold, Elizabeth Hammer, Tanner Kuper, Faith Lubischer, Kailey Marks, Garret Meier, Abigail Meier, Kenzie Moeller, Shawn Rinkel, Alexis Schnoor, Abygail Streff, Mark Venteicher, and Shelby White. The juniors who were inducted included Hailey Abler, Jakob Edins, Emilia Goetsch, Addison Johnson, Carson Oestreich, and Halle Ross. The seniors inducted were Kiley Bierman, Rachel Fenton, Ryder Fuchs, Susan Venteicher, and Rhayna Waldner.
The ceremony kicked off with president Janae Arens welcoming the new members and giving a brief speech on what characteristics the incoming members have shown throughout the year. A speech was then given by member Katrina Meier over one of the four pillars that the National Honor Society stands on. This speech included information about the yellow pillar, which represents scholarship or academic achievement. Following Katrina, vice president Samantha Svendsen presented a speech about the green pillar, which represents character. After Samantha, a speech was presented by member Macie Timm about the red pillar, service. Finally, Jakob Meier spoke about leadership, which is represented by the purple pillar.
After the candles representing the four pillars were lit, a veteran member was called up to the stage along with an incoming member. The veteran member lit the new member’s candle to represent passing one’s light onto others, and each person then wrote their name in the member book. The ceremony concluded when every new and veteran member’s candles were lit and then blown out simultaneously.
President Janae Arens said, “The new inductees are very deserving and possess all the qualities of service, leadership, scholarship, and character.”
