Bluejay Wrestling Team Takes Home Gold

In a 23-team tournament, the Bluejay wrestlers placed 1st at the Neligh-Oakdale Invite on Saturday, January 19.

Dylan Kuehler, Ryder Fuchs, Brett Tinker, and Brock Bolling placed 1st; Carter Jensen, Jeremiah Kruntorad, Ashton Schweitzer, and Nelson Emerson placed 4th; Isaiah Adams placed 6th.

At 106, Brock Bolling won by a tech fall over Hunter Beacom from Osmond, by fall over Brock Marxsen from Clarkson/Leigh, and by decision over Hunter Bennett.

At 113, Isaiah Adams won by major decision over River Romej from Elgin. Adams lost to Riley Hadwiger of Pleasanton by decision. Adams won by fall over Devin Graae of Pierce. He also won by decision over Griffin Claussen from Neligh-Oakdale. Adams lost by tech fall to Thomas Klemesrud of North Central. Adams lost by rule to Trevor Klingelhoefer from Amherst.

Also at 113, Devin Graae lost by fall to Thomas Klemesrud of North Central. Graae lost to Isaiah Adams of Pierce by fall.

At 120, Ethan Dohmen won by fall over Shane Farnik of Creighton. Dohmen lost to Reece Jaqua of Wayne. Dohmen won by decision over Mason Lammers of Pleasanton. Dohmen lost to Rafe Grebin of Clearwater-Orchard by fall.

At 126, Carter Jensen won by fall over David Smolik of Amherst and by decision over Chase Pawloski of Pleasanton. Jensen lost to Quentyn Frank of Amherst by decision. Jensen then won by fall over Colby Harney of Clarkson/ Leigh. In the 3rd-place match, Jensen lost to Zak Palmer of North Central by major decision.

At 132, Mason Sedlacek lost to Luke Henn of Elgin by fall. Sedlacek lost to Jeremiah Kruntorad of Pierce by decision.

Also at 132, Jeremiah Kruntorad won by fall over Will Schmitz of St.Mary and Jared Shaw of North Central. Kruntorad lost by decision to Andrew Herley of Neligh-Oakdale. Kruntorad won by decision over Mason Sedlacek of Pierce and Josh Klingelhoefer of Amherst. Kruntorad lost to Trigger Pokorny of Central Valley by medical forfeit.

At 138, Michael Kruntorad won by decision over Dallas Snyder of Neligh. Kruntorad lost to Enrique Martinez of Central Valley by major decision. Kruntorad also lost to RJ Wilmes of Creighton by fall.

At 145, Ashton Schweitzer won by fall over Michael Glynn of Elkhorn Valley and Sam Vortherms of Creighton. Schweitzer lost by decision to Prestin of Elkhorn Valley. Schweitzer won by fall over Cory Romej of Elgin. Schweitzer then lost by decision to Alex Schmit of Randolph.

Also at 145, Jaden Jones lost by fall to Samuel Florell of Amherst and Stone Swantek of Nebraska Christian.

At 152, Nelson Emerson won by fall over Dodge Daniels of Central Valley. Emerson lost by fall to Trace Ebert of North Central. Emerson won by fall over Martin Wortman of West Holt and by decision over Houston Marino of Clearwater-Orchard. Emerson won by decision over Bode Wortman of Creighton. Emerson then lost by medical forfeit in the 3rd-place match to Trace Ebert of North Central.

At 152, Tim Windheuser lost by fall to JD Kuhlma of Creighton and Trey Sucha of Niobrara/ Verdigre. Also at 152, Aiden Gnat lost by fall to Cole Stokebrand of Amherst and Kalob Green of Nebraska Christian.  

At 160, Brett Tinker won by fall over Garrett Swantek of Nebraska Christian, Reid Korth of Wayne, Brenden Waldow of Creighton, and James Polen of North Central.

At 170, Travis Jensen lost by fall to Kaleb Pofahl of Neligh-Oakdale and Tyler Bellar of Clearwater-Orchard. Also at 170, Ren Gleason won by fall over Dakota Spann of Wayne. Gleason lost by fall to Noah Scott of Randolph. Gleason won by fall over Gabe Pettit of Franklin and lost by decision over Tyler Bellar.

At 182, Cole Cheney lost by fall to Brock Schaecher of Elkhorn Valley. Cheney won by fall over Dustin Jensen of Pierce. Cheney lost by decision over Terance Burrell of Creighton.

Also at 182, Dustin Jensen lost by fall to Jayden Arehart of NEligh-Oakdale and Cole Cheney of Pierce.

At 195, Ryder Fuchs won by fall over Beua Hrbek of Niobrara Verdigre, Grant Hawkins of Pleasanton, Drew Bogard of Amherst, and Clay Thiele of Clearwater-Orchard.  

At 220, Dylan Kuehler won by fall over Nick Erickson of Pierce, Joseph Kahrs of Franklin, Donaven Nozle of Clearwater-Orchard, and Jaxon Taubenheim of Amherst.

Also at 220, Nick Erickson lost by fall to Dylan Kuehler. Erickson won by fall over Jacob Bennett of Clearwater-Orchard. Erickson lost by fall to Colton Klabenes of Neligh-Oakdale.

At 285, Jacob Kerber lost by fall to Logan Mueller of Clearwater-Orchard and Austin Cook of Riverside.

The next wrestling tournament will be Saturday, January 26, at Boone Central.


Wrestlers Take Home 2nd from Madison Invite

The Pierce High wrestlers took home 2nd place after wrestling in the Madison Invite on Friday, January 18. The team ended with a score of 227 points.

Individually, Brock Bolling, Dylan Kuehler, and Ryder Fuchs placed 1st; Michael Kruntorad, Ashton Schweitzer, and Nelson Emerson placed 2nd; Carter Jensen and Jacob Kerber placed 4th; Brett Tinker and Jeremiah Kruntorad placed 5th; and Isaiah Adams placed 6th.

At the 106 weight class, Brock Bolling defeated Pablo Tellez of Columbus Lakeview and Dawson Hardesty of Conestoga. Bolling won by tech fall over Hayden Johnston of Columbus Lakeview. Bolling also won by decision over Ein Obermiller of Grand Island.

At 113, Isaiah Adams pinned Devin Graae of Pierce. Adams also won by decision over Juan Davalos of Twin River. Adams was defeated by Braden Ruffner of Conestoga and lost by decision to Dakota Gullickson of Madison. Finally, Adams was defeated by Jerry Mejia of Grand Island. Also at 113, Devin Graae was pinned by Isaiah Adams of Pierce and Dakota Gullickson of Madison.

At 120, Ethan Dohmen defeated Norman Grothe of Elgin Pope John. Dohmen was then defeated by Trevor Jedlicka of Howells-Dodge and Cole Holman of Friend. Finally, Dohmen lost by tech fall to Rogelio Ruiz of Grand Island.

At 126, Carter Jensen won by decision over Christian Beltran of Grand Island. Jensen then lost by decision to Chase Pawloski of Pleasanton. After that, Jensen defeated Dylan Miller of West Point Beemer, Gabe Lamprecht of Wakefield, and William Poppe of Crofton. Finally, Jensen lost by rule to Keaghon Chini of Conestoga in finals.

At 132, Jeremiah Kruntorad lost by decision to Cameron Williams of Conestoga. He then won by decision over Mason Sedlacek of Pierce and won by medical forfeit over Luke Henn of Elgin Pope John. He then lost by decision to Gavin Lampman of Wisner Pilger. Finally, he won by forfeit over Charlie Lopez of Wakefield. Also at 132 Mason Sedlacek lost by major decision to Marcos Osorio of West Point Beemer and lost by decision to Jeremiah Kruntorad of Pierce.

At 138, Michael Kruntorad defeated William Karmann of Boone Central and Khyler Shortridge of Columbus Lakeview. He then won by decision over Jacob Dragon of Conestoga. Finally he was defeated by Joel Lemburg of Columbus Lakeview.

At 145, Ashton Schweitzer defeated Damien Erickson of Stanton and Ashton Schafer of Boone Central. Schweitzer lost by major decision to Boston Barcel of Columbus Lakeview.

At 152, Nelson Emerson defeated Jacob Hegemann of Howells-Dodge and Chase Eisenhauer of West Point-Beemer. Emerson was defeated by Isaac Verzani of Wakefield. Also at 152, Aiden Gnat was defeated by Chase Eisenhauer of West Point-Beemer and Jacob Hegemann of Howells-Dodge.

At 160, Brett Tinker was defeated by Jake Harriger of West Point-Beemer. Tinker defeated Elber Reyes of Grand Island and Gaute Gunliksrud of Howells-Dodge. Tinker was then defeated by Ethan Dozler of Boone Central. Finally, he defeated Wyatt Hegemann of Howells-Dodge.

At 170, Ren Gleason defeated Aidan Sateren of Wisner-Pilger. Gleason was then defeated by Trevor Schumacher of Howells-Dodge. Afterwards, Gleason defeated Gabe Pettit of Franklin. Finally, Gleason was defeated by Yuset Arellanes of Crofton.

At 182, Cole Cheney was defeated by Jacob Frenzen of Columbus Lakeview. Afterwards, Cheney defeated Gabriel Sanchez of Grand Island. Finally, Cheney was defeated by Sutton Pohlman of Stanton.

At 195, Dylan Kuehler defeated Tucker Alexander of Twin River and Hunter Thonen of Conestoga.

At 220, Ryder Fuchs won by tech fall over Joe Rodriguez of West Point-Beemer. Afterwards, Fuchs defeated Kolby Johnson of Madison. Finally, Fuchs won by decision over Jon Merten of Boone Central. Also at 220, Nick Erickson was defeated by Jared Janssen of Crofton and Landon Beaver of Wisner Pilger.

At 285, Jacob Kerber won by decision over Daniel Ciriaco of Madison. Afterwards, Kerber was defeated by Cody Thompson of Columbus Lakeview. Kerber then defeated JySeann Pugh of Pleasanton. Finally, Kerber was defeated by Kyle Pickhinke of Howells-Dodge.

The Pierce High Bluejays competed at the Neligh/Oakdale invite on Saturday, January 19, at the home of the Warriors. Their next meet will be Saturday, January 26, at Boone Central/Newman Grove.


Bluejay Wrestlers Take on Braves and Knights

The Pierce High wrestling team took on the Battle Creek Braves and Norfolk Catholic Knights at home on Thursday, January 17, in a triangular and went 1-1. The Bluejays lost to the Braves with a score of 33-42 and defeated the Knights with a score of 69-10.

Pierce faced off with Norfolk Catholic first starting at 195. Norfolk Catholic was open at the weight classes of 195, 220, 285, 106, 113, 120, 126, and 132, giving 48 points to Pierce. At the 138 weight class, Wyatt Smydra defeated Michael Kruntorad by major decision. At 145, Ashton Schweitzer won by decision over Francisco Mendez. At 152, Nelson Emerson pinned Noah Wattier. At 160, Norfolk Catholic was open once again, so Pierce received another six points. At 170, Max Middendorf pinned Pierce’s Travis Jensen. Finally, at 182, Norfolk Catholic was open, giving Pierce six more points. This put the final team scores at 69-10.

After facing Norfolk Catholic, Pierce took on Battle Creek. Starting at the 285 weight class, Dylan Kuehler pinned Dahlas Zlomke. At 106, Isaiah Adams defeated Hunter Kreikemeier by tech fall. At 113, Brock Bolling won by tech fall over Boston Reeves. At 120, Ethan Dohmen was pinned by Caydon McCracken. At 126, Carter Jensen was pinned by Carter King. At 132, Jeremiah Kruntorad lost in sudden victory to Owen Lade. At 138, Michael Kruntorad was pinned by Damien Kersten. At 145, Ashton Schweitzer pinned Kobe Thompson. At 152, Aiden Gnat was pinned by Ty Heimes. At 160, Nelson Emerson lost by decision to Buddy Walz. At 170, Brett Tinker beat Traven Croghan by tech fall. At 182, Ren Gleason was pinned by AJ Hawthorne. At 195, Cole Cheney was pinned by Austin Marx. Battle Creek was open at 220, giving Pierce six points. This put the final score at 33-42.

The Pierce High Bluejays wrestled again on Friday, January 18, at Madison and Saturday, January 19 at Neligh/Oakdale. Their next meet will be Saturday, January 26, at Boone Central/Newman Grove.
