Wrestlers Get Ready to Own the Mat
by Kailey Marks
The 2018 wrestling team started their season on Monday, November 12, with practice. Their team includes a whopping 23 wrestlers this year. Returning letter winners for the wrestling team are seniors Cole Cheney, Ryder Fuchs and Nelson Emerson; juniors Brett Tinker, Jeremiah Kruntorad and Dylan Kuehler; and sophomores Devin Graae, Ethan Dohmen, Travis Jensen, Jaden Jones and Mason Sedlacek.
Coach Tyler Legate stated they are starting off the season going back to the basics for the new faces and returners, and one small struggle they will face will be to bridge the gap between new and experienced wrestlers. This year, Coach Legate is hoping for more state qualifiers and also placing as a team at some tournaments. Legate stated that he really enjoys working with all the boys that went out for wrestling this year and seeing them enjoy coming to practice everyday. One of the team’s goals, according to Coach Legate, is persevering throughout the season. He said, “Winter sports can be long, so let’s make the most of it, staying positive and improving everyday.”
The Bluejays start their season on the mat Saturday, December 1, at O’Neill.
