Softball at Central City Tournament

The Lady Jays had a softball tournament Saturday, September 22 in Central City and lost all three games.
The first game was against the Aquinas Monarchs. Final was 3-22. In the first inning the Lady Jays scored three points with the Monarchs having 20 runs. Second inning Pierce had no runs, and the Monarchs had two runs. Throughout the third and fourth innings both the Lady Jays and Monarchs had no runs.
Individually, Kiley Bierman had one hit, and Kaylee Dvorak had two. Dvorak had three runs batted in, and she had one strikeout in pitching.
In the second game the Pierce Lady Jays played the O'Neill Eagles. 1-14 was the score of the second game.
Individually, Brianna Aguilera and Kiley Bierman had one hit apiece. Aguilera had two strikeouts, and Bierman had one strikeout pitching.
The final game was against the Schuyler Warriors with the final 4-6. In the first inning the Lady Jays scored three runs, and the Warriors had two. Going into the second inning the Warriors had one run but the Lady Jays had no runs. In the third inning neither Pierce nor Schuyler scored. Fourth inning saw three runs for Schuyler and no runs for the Bluejays. In the last inning the Pierce had one run, and Warriors had no runs.
Individually, Bierman, Aguilera, Dvorak, and Mikala Stone all had one hit. Ashton Oestreich had one RBI and Bierman had two RBI against the Warriors. Stone and Bierman had three assists each. Oestreich and Dvorak had one RBI each during the game. Pitching for the game against the Warriors was Dvorak with three strikeouts, and Aguilera had one strikeout.
Coach VonSeggern said, “We started ahead during our first game, but some pitching issues early on ended up being the game changer for us. We just couldn’t figure out a way to create outs, and we gave up a lot runs. Unfortunately, that seemed to be our mind set and issue all day. During our last game, the girls played a little better defensively but couldn’t get their bats going.”
Next game for the the Lady Jays is Thursday, September 27; it is parents’ night.
Softball Battles Twin River

The Lady Jays softball team lost 2-14 to Twin River on Tuesday, September 18.
In the first inning Pierce and Twin River both scored one point. In the second inning the Titans scored one point while holding the Lady Jays to one point. In the third and final inning the Titans scored 12 points while the Lady Jays scored one to give the Titans the 12-point win.
Brianna Aguilera had two hits and three putouts. Kaycie Druyor had two hits, one RBI and four putouts. Kiley Bierman had one RBI and one assist. Rose Graham had one putout and one assist. Angelica Volquardsen had one putout. Ashton Oestreich had one assist and Pitcher Kaylee Dvorak had two assists and struck out two batters.
The Lady Jays’ next softball game will be on Thursday, September 27 at home; it is also softball parents’ night. They will compete in the Mid-State tournament on Saturday, September 29, at Albion.
