Bluejays Soar Over the Eagles

by Kailey Marks

The Bluejay football team played the Arlington Eagles on Friday, August 31. Pierce played on Arlington’s field and defeated them with a score of 51-8.

In the first quarter of the game, the Bluejays started off with putting three touchdowns on the scoreboard. Brett Tinker ran a 61-yard touchdown, Carson Oestreich scored on a six-yard touchdown and Dalton Freeman finished off the quarter with an 11-yard touchdown. Devan Roth’s extra points were all good, so the score leaving the first quarter was 21-0 with the Bluejays firmly in the lead.

In the second quarter, Pierce continued to dominate as they scored another three touchdowns. Freeman scored a two-yard touchdown and then also tackled the Eagles in the endzone for a safety. Freeman then ran for 28 yards to find the endzone again, and Oestreich darted for a one-yard touchdown, while the Jays’ defense continued to hold Arlington at zero. Roth’s extra points were all good, leaving the halftime score at 44-0.

In the third quarter, Jeremiah Kruntorad ran in a 70-yard touchdown, and an extra point by Chaden Roth against the Eagles brought the score to a whopping 51-0.

In the final quarter of the Arlington and Bluejay game, the Eagles managed to punch in a touchdown and score a two-point conversion, but the Jays’ lead was far too much to overcome, and the final score left them with a win of 51-8.

Brett Tinker led the team in rushing yards with 88 yards and also in tackles with 14. Oestreich, Ryder Fuchs, and Derrick Kolterman all had one sack for the night. Gavin Larson had two catches and ran for 39 yards, and Jadon Magdanz had one catch and ran for 36 yards.

Coach Mark Brahmer said that, despite the margin of victory, he saw some mistakes during the game and will be improving those mistakes before the next game. Brahmer said, “If we do that, then we should improve on a weekly basis, and if we stay healthy, we hopefully will have a great opportunity to win many of our ball games.”

The Bluejays’ next game is Friday, September 7, at home against Ord.
