Softball Team Runs Bases at Wisner

The Lady Jays’ softball team traveled to Wisner on Saturday, August 25, for a tournament. They went 0-3 against teams Highway 91, O'Neill Eagles, and Boone Central Cardinals.

Against the Eagles, the ending score was 3-9, favoring O'Neill. The first inning consisted of two runs from the Eagles and zero runs for the Lady Jays. During the second inning, the Eagles added one more run to the score, and Lady Jays were still left at zero. In the third inning, the Eagles pulled off four more runs kept the Lady Jays scoreless again, leaving the score at 0-9. The fourth inning is when the Lady Jays managed their runs, but with neither team able to score in the final inning, the final score remained at 3-9. During this game, Kiley Bierman got two hits, and Rose Graham, Elizabeth Hammer, Brianna Aguilera and Kaylee Dvorak all got one hit. Dvorak also had an RBI.

During the Highway 91 game, the final score was 4-8, favoring Highway 91. The first inning, there were no runs from either team, but in the second inning, Highway 91 hammered in seven and left Pierce at zero. The third inning was quiet for both teams offensively, and Highway 91 put away one more run in the fourth. The final inning, the Lady Jays added four runs to the score, but it wasn’t enough to overtake the lead, and the victory went to Highway 91 by a score of 4-8. During this game, Kaycie Druyor got two hits, and Graham, Hammer, Aguilera and Ashton Oestreich all got one hit. The game also included an RBI apiece from Graham, Hammer, Druyor, and Dvorak.

Taking on the Boone Central Cardinals in their final game, the Lady Jays fell 1-15. During the first inning, the score ended with five runs from the Cardinals and Pierce left at zero. In the second inning, the Cardinals extended their lead with three runs, while the Lady Jays brought in one. The third inning saw another Cardinal run, and with an explosive fourth inning, the Cardinals took a decisive victory of 15-1 over the Lady Jays. During this game, the Lady Jays got hits from Aguilera and Oestreich.

Coach Marika VonSeggern said, “At times, we really came alive offensively. It just happened to be too late in the game to compete with the other team's score.” She also stated that they were ready for some teams’ offensive and defensive plays, but were also not ready for others.

The Lady Jays’ next game is Tuesday, August 28, at home against West-Point Beemer.
