New Staff Profile: Alecia Barnes

by McKenna Shonka

Pierce Elementary welcomed a new face, Alecia Barnes. Mrs. Alecia Barnes is a sign language interpreter for 6th grade.

Mrs. Barnes grew up in the town of Cody, Nebraska. She went to college at Idaho Western Council Bluffs. Before Mrs. Barnes came to Pierce, she taught in another school in northeast Nebraska. Mrs. Barnes fell in love with teaching by taking sign language class when she was younger. The aspect Mrs. Barnes likes the most about teaching is that her students are excited to learn, and they also give her different perspectives every day in class.

Mrs. Barnes is married, and she has three boys. Barnes’ sons ages are six, four, and two years old. During her free time, she likes to go swimming with her kids and also paint ceramics. Mrs. Barnes said Pierce is welcoming and a nice place to work, and she has enjoyed her time so far.  Mrs. Barnes is excited to teach her students and have a great year at Pierce Elementary.
