Volleyball Rolls Into Season

by Montana Ruppert

The Lady Jay volleyball team began their season on Monday, August 6, when fall sports practice could officially begin.

The team includes 36 players, including six returning letterwinners: Rhayna Waldner, Maggie Brahmer, Kayla Simmons, Katrina Meier, Zoe Brenden, and Kenzie Moeller.

The team has worked throughout the summer and the offseason in both the gym and the weightroom. They played many teams from all over the state over the summer. The team’s main goal is to improve every day so they can be competitive with the best teams in their conference as well as the state.

Head coach Brittany Weber said, “Our schedule is very challenging. We have the opportunity to play some of the best teams in the state every week. I have been very impressed with the leadership from our older girls. Their ability and willingness to lead vocally and by example has already resulted in immense improvement in a number of areas.”

The Lady Jays will host Columbus High this Thursday, August 16, for a jamboree game. The first official competition that the girls will face will be home against Norfolk Catholic on Thursday, August 30.
