Show Choir Flies to USD
by Brenna Collison
The Pierce High swing choir traveled to the University of South Dakota on Tuesday, March 13, for the USD Jazz Festival, and scored 218 points out of a possible 300, well above the average score of the other schools.
The group who performed consisted of twelve choir students. In addition to Pierce’s choir, groups from schools from Nebraska, Iowa, and Minnesota were present.
“This was the first time the swing choir has ever competed,” director Terri Haselhorst said. “There were groups there that had 46 kids in their show choir, so we looked pretty small against those groups. The students handled it with a lot of composure and performed very well. The performance motivated them to want to try new things for next year.”
