Pierce High School Holds Winter Sports Banquet

by Kaleb Zamora

Pierce High School held their annual winter activities banquet on Tuesday, March 13. The banquet kicked off with an introduction from activities director Darren Sindelar, followed by a prayer from FCA representative Taylor Oestreich and a potluck meal. Six sports and clubs awarded their competitors with letters for their accomplishments during the season.

First up were the cheer and dance teams. Mark Brahmer and Sherry Raabe presented awards to the winter cheerleaders, which included letters for all of their nine cheerleaders. Then the dance team was up, and their sponsor Presley Thompson gave letters to all of her six dance team members.

Next up was the speech team with coaches Melissa Legate and Thomas Edmisten. The speech team had 28 letterwinners, and they gave awards to the top speaker in each grade. For the freshmen, it was Mark Venteicher; sophomore was Halle Ross; junior was Janae Arens; and senior was Grace Spieker. They also gave an award to the top new speaker, which was Jaden Gleason, and Abigail White was given a career speaker award.

Up next was the wrestling team, and coach Tyler Legate presented all of his wrestlers with letters. He also gave special recognition to Ryder Fuchs, Cody Yawn, and Brett Tinker for making it to state, as well as wrestlers who broke school records.

Lastly, the basketball awards were presented. The girls’ basketball team was up first, and their coaches were Amber Engler, Phil Wiedenfeld, and head coach Darren Sindelar. They lettered 12 players this season, and Sidney Zimmerer, Carly Sutherland, and Maggie Brahmer made all-conference team. Last up was the boys’ basketball team with coaches Mike Emory, Tim Waldner, and Zach Weber. They gave letters to eight of their players, and Braydan Waldner was honored with all-conference team and getting a basketball remembering his 1,000th point. Both basketball teams recognized players who made it into the school record book for their season and career stats.
