Music Students to Attend UNK Honor Band, Choir
by Rose Graham
Nine band members and three choir members from Pierce High School will be traveling to Kearney Monday, January 22, after being selected for the UNK Honor Band and Choir Clinic. There are two different bands at the clinic, including an honor band and a festival band. Klarissa Norris, Stephanie Rinkel, Alex Kesting, Kyler Peters, Wyatt Flesner, and Dylan Delka all made the festival band. Katrina Meier, Abbey Sedlacek, and Matthew Williams made the honor band. For choir, Koby Kuper and Rose Graham made the festival choir. Sydney Erickson made the women’s choir.
Back in the fall, students who hoped to be selected for these music honors mailed in audition tapes of their singing or playing.
“I am looking forward to listening to the clinician because I always learn something from them and can bring something back to choir,” said choir director Terri Haselhorst. “I have a nice group of kids that I will be taking to Kearney. They will come back better singers as a result of working with the clinician and the students around them. They will be able to bring things back to help our choir grow.”
Band director Mike Sindt is also looking forward to having his students participate in the experience. He said, “I enjoy this event because I get to know some of my students outside of the regular band rehearsal. It is always very impressive how all of the students from all over Nebraska and Kansas with very different backgrounds can work together for a common goal.”
The concert will be held at the UNK Health and Sports Center with the bands starting at 5:30 and the choir following at 7:30.
