Speech Team Begins Season at Home
Pierce High’s speakers kicked off their competition season by hosting the Bluejay Invitational on Saturday, January 13. In the varsity division, the Bluejays finished 9th, and in the junior varsity division, Pierce was the championship team.
For varsity, individual medalists were the Duet of Dylan Delka and Janae Arens (3rd), and the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Macie Timm, Arens, Delka, Abigail White, and Jaden Gleason (5th). White also medaled in in Informative Speaking (6th).
JV medalists were Mark Venteicher in Informative Speaking (1st), Halle Ross in Serious Prose (1st), Caydan Retzlaff in Extemporaneous (2nd), Alex McKeown in Extemporaneous (3rd), and Emilia Goetsch in Humorous Prose (4th). Retzlaff also placed in Persuasive Speaking (6th), and the Oral Interpretation of Drama team of Ross, Goetsch, Retzlaff, McKeown, and Maiya Baumann finished in 2nd.
The speech team will compete again Saturday, January 20, at Boone Central.
