Bluejay Wrestling

Bluejay Wrestlers Place 3rd at Battle Creek

 

The PHS wrestlers competed in the Battle Creek Invitational on Saturday, January 13. With a team score of 110, the Bluejays finished 3rd as a team.

Medalists for the Jays included Cody Yawn (1st), Ryder Fuchs (1st), Jeremiah Kruntorad (2nd), Dylan Kuehler (3rd), Brett Tinker (5th), Devin Graae (5th), Mason Sedlacek (7th), and Nelson Emerson (7th).

At 106, Graae fell to Caden Meinke of Battle Creek, Hunter Bennett of Elkhorn Valley, Cruz Dyer of Hartington CC, and Cory Armstrong Jr. of Norfolk.

At 113, Jayden Sporleder lost to Caydon McCracken of Battle Creek. Sedlacek lost to Koby Ellis of Winside and Toby Ives of Niobrara/Verdigre and defeated Ethan Dohmen of Pierce by pin. Ethan Dohmen lost to Caydon McCracken of Battle Creek and Caleb Roemhildt of Norfolk.

At 126, Kruntorad pinned Jeremiah Chase of Wakefield, Kerby Hochstein of Hartington CC, and Ethan Lee of Norfolk. In the championship match, he fell to Damien Kersten of Battle Creek.

At 132, Yawn pinned Daisy Jimenez of Norfolk, Dylan Ahlman of Battle Creek, and Prestin Vondra of Elkhorn Valley.

At 138, Jaden Jones lost to Ben Chase of Wakefield and Colton Beacom of Osmond.

At 145, Tinker pinned Morgan Koch of Hartington CC and Casey North of Winside. He lost to Brandon Bloomquist by decision in Round 3 but bounced back to pin Cullen Cook of Ponca in the consolation bracket. In the 5th-place match, Tinker beat Josh McMillen of Scribner-Snyder by major decision.

At 152, Emerson pinned Jacob Anderson of Wakefield. He lost his next two matches to Turner Korth of Hartington CC and Colton Krusemark of Ponca, but in the 7th-place match, he pinned Buddy Walz of Battle Creek.

At 160, Travis Jensen was pinned by Sutton Pohlman of Stanton and Colby Wathor of Randolph.

At 195, Kuehler pinned Noah Lamprecht of Wakefield and Calvin Dather of Crofton Bloomfield. He lost in Round 3 to Austin Marx of Battle Creek and then fell to Levi Stacken of Creighton. In the 3rd-place match, Kuehler pinned Carter Jensen of Howells-Dodge.

At 220, Fuchs pinned Isiah Ames of Norfolk and Julio Sanchez of Wakefield. In the championship match, he won by major decision over Jonathan Escalante of Winside.

At 285, Sam Rosno lost to Thai Thompson of Battle Creek and Kyle Pickhinke of Howells-Dodge.

The Bluejay wrestlers will be in action again on Thursday, January 18, for a triangular with Norfolk Catholic and Battle Creek at Norfolk. Then Saturday, January 20, they will take on the Aurora Duals.


Wrestlers Defeat Plainview in Dual

 

Pierce’s wrestling team faced Plainview in a dual on Thursday, January 11. The Bluejays came out on top 45-34.

The first match of the night was between Ryder Fuchs and Cameron Nelson at 285, and Fuchs won by pin. At 106, Devin Graae lost to Plainviews’ Eli Lanham by pin. Mason Sedlacek lost the 113-pound match to Jaden Sobotka by major decision. Jayden Sporleder took a loss at 120 to Nate Christensen by pin. Things turned around for the Jays at 126 when Jeremiah Kruntorad pinned Keagan Mosel for six team points. Brett Tinker took another Pierce win at 152, beating Andrew Nelson by decision 8-7. Travis Jensen lost his match at 160 to Dominic Bolling, Nelson Emerson lost 170 to Collin Gale, and Cole Cheney lost at 182 to Lucas Hammer. With Plainview being open at 132, 138, 195, and 220, the Jays were able to rack up enough team points to come out ahead of the Pirates.

The Bluejays will hit the mats again on Saturday, January 20, for the Aurora duals.
