Lady Jays Shoot into Season
by Morgan Crist
The Pierce High girls’ basketball team dribbled into their season with the start of practice on Monday, November 13.
There are seven returning letter winners this year. These girls are Sidney Zimmer, Carly Sutherland, Brenna Collison, Maggie Brahmer, Kayla Simmons, Brianna Aguilera, and Zoe Brenden. The rest of the team, 19 girls total, consists of Destiny Martin, Marie Stone, Abbey Fuerhoff, Tazlynn Sporleder, Hailey Abler, Kenzie Moeller, Faith Lubischer, Mikala Stone, Sarah Miller, Abigail Meier, and Chloe Davies. The team will once again be coached by Darren Sindelar.
To prepare for the season, the team has been focusing on the smaller aspects of the game, such as consistency and depth. One of the greatest challenges the team will have this upcoming season is the high amount of games they play before Christmas. Along with that, a good number of their games will be away rather than at home, and the Mid-State Conference is very strong, as well. The Lady Jays will meet these challenges head-on, however, as according to Coach Sindelar, the biggest strengths of the team this year include an experienced team, with four out of five starters have returned this year.
Coach Sindelar said of their goals for the season, “We want to be a close-knit team that competes at a high level in practice and games. We want to be great communicators on the floor. If we can do this, we should have an opportunity to be one of the top teams in our conference and our class.”
The Lady Jays will compete in their first game on Thursday, November 30, against at Howells-Dodge.
