by Morgan Crist

The Pierce High one-actors performed their play The Beggar’s Opera in the Swedish Festival at Wausa High School on Monday, November 13. The following day, the thespians performed at the Johnny Carson Theatre for the Mid-State Festival on Tuesday, November 14.

This year’s play is The Beggar’s Opera, and is once again directed by Danielle Goetsch, assisted by Misti Halsey and student director Holli Hoctor.

At the Swedish One-Act Festival, Pierce’s cast and crew were in action along with six other schools. This festival was not a competition, so no placements were given. However, individual awards were given to each school’s actors.

Given the awards of outstanding performances were Caydan Retzlaff, Macie Timm, Jaden Gleason, Matthew Williams, Janae Arens, Peter Halsey, and Trevor Zellmer. Peter Halsey was also given the award for best overall male actor for PHS. As for best overall female actor, Janae Arens received this award.

At the Mid-States Festival, no placements were given, but once again, individual actors were recognized. Macie Timm was award Best Overall Actress for Mid-States. Along with best overall actress, Macie Timm was named an outstanding performer with her cast mates Caydan Retzlaff, Jaden Gleason, Matthew Williams, Janae Arens, and Holli Hoctor.

Coach Danielle Goetsch said her hopes for the season are, “Always to be competitive and work at coming in to close to the top if not the top.”

The next time the one-act cast will be performing is on Monday, November 20, which will be the Community Performance held at the auditorium in Pierce starting at 7:00 p.m.
