Bluejays Advance to State Semifinals

The Pierce High football team stomped out the West Point-Beemer Cadets on Friday, November 3, at the home of the Bluejays. The Bluejays finished their second round of playoffs with a win of 54-34 over the Cadets.
During the first quarter, Collin Tinker ran in three unanswered touchdowns, and Devin Roth kicked all three successful PAT’s putting the score at 21-0.
The second quarter saw two Cadets touchdowns, but Pierce answered back with two touchdowns of their own. Dalton Freeman ran a 63-yard touchdown that Devan Roth followed with a successful PAT. Cody Yawn caught a pass from Dalton Freeman to make a 34-yard touchdown with another PAT kicked by Devan Roth. The Jays went into halftime with a 35-14 lead.
The Cadets came out firing after halftime with a touchdown and PAT, but the Bluejays’ Brett Tinker scored a two-yard touchdown for the Bluejays. Jadon Magdanz later caught a six-yard touchdown pass from Dalton Freeman to extend the Jays’ lead to 47-21 after three.
For the fourth and final quarter, the Cadets attempted to catch up with two touchdowns and one successful PAT but were unable to defeat the Bluejays. Carson Oestreich of Pierce ran a 19-yard touchdown to finish off the game while Devan Roth kicked the PAT that put the icing on the cake.
Freeman passed for a total of 42 yards with three completions. Brett Tinker had 131 yards rushing, and Yawn had 34 yards receiving. Brett Tinker had 14 total tackles, Ashton Wragge had 12, and Jakob Meier had a sack. Dylan Delka had a fumble recovery, and Brett Tinker and Yawn each had an interception.
The Jays will now face Boone Central/Newman Grove in the state semifinals on Friday, November 10, in Albion.
