Lady Jays Win Pierce County Tournament

The Lady Jays played in the annual Pierce County Tournament on Thursday, October 12. The tournament was held at home this year, and the Lady Jays played Osmond the first game and Plainview in the championship. The Lady Jays defeated Osmond 25-9 and 25-16, and they beat Plainview 25-14 and 25-16.
For the first game against the Osmond Tigers, the Lady Jays dominated the first set and only allowed them nine points. Kayla Simmons and Grace Spieker went on long serving runs to help the Lady Jays get their 25-9 set victory. In the second set, the the Lady Jays kept pushing and defeated Osmond 25-16. Simmons and Maci Kroupa went on serving runs to aid their team in this set.
Individually for the Lady Jays, Maggie Brahmer led the team in kills with six, while Meredith Fasse and Brenna Collison each had two. Simmons and Brahmer each had three service aces. Rhayna Waldner and Fasse led the team in blocks with four a piece. Zimmerer had 11 digs, Simmons had 12 assists, and Grace Spieker had two.
In the championship game the Lady Jays faced the Plainview Pirates. Starting off the game, the Lady Jays and the Pirates battled back and forth until Kroupa went on a three-point serving run to get her team the momentum they needed. Sidney Zimmerer finished the game by serving the last six points of the set. The final set score was 25-14. In the next set, the Lady Jays kept their momentum and won the set 25-16. Zimmerer, Simmons, and Brenna Collison all went on serving runs to help their team get the victory.
Individually, Brahmer and Fasse had 11 and seven kills, respectively, and Zimmerer had two service aces. Brahmer and Waldner led the team in blocks with three a piece, and Zimmerer had 17 digs. Simmons finished the game with 14 assists, and Spieker had ten.
“Overall, we continue to improve our team chemistry. Things are starting to click for us in the right part of the season,” Coach Brittany Case said. “I am looking forward to seeing how we compete in the conference tournament.”
The Lady Jays’ next games will be in the Mid-States Conference tournament, which started on Monday, October 23, and continues until Thursday, October 26.
Varsity Lady Jays Defeat GACC

The varsity volleyball team traveled to West Point to play Guardian Angels Central Catholic. Putting away GACC in four sets, the Lady Jays defeated them with set scores of 25-23, 25-10, 21-25, and 25-13.
In the first set, GACC and the Lady Jays battled back and forth points until the end. The Lady Jays were able to pull ahead and win it 25-23. Sidney Zimmerer went on a five-point serving run in the middle of the set to help her team get their first set victory.
In the second set, the Lady Jays were not slowing down and beat GACC 25-10. Brenna Collison went on a long serving run to give the Lady Jays the lead they needed, and Maci Kroupa finished off the set by serving three points in a row.
The third set did not go in the Lady Jays’ favor, as they fell 21-25. Losing their momentum, they could not find a way to pull ahead, despite serving runs from Collison and Kroupa.
In the final set of the game, the Lady Jays found their stride once again. Collison went on an eight-point serving run early in the set to give her team the lead they needed. Continuing serving well for the Lady Jays was Maggie Brahmer, who served the last four points of the game. The final set score was 25-13.
Individually for the Lady Jays, Brahmer led the team in kills with 15, and Meredith Fasse had seven. Kroupa had two service aces, Brahmer had 11 blocks, and Katrina Meier and Fasse had six. Zimmerer and Collison had 20 and 13 digs, respectively, and Simmons had 13 assists, and Grace Spieker had ten.
“I'm proud of the way we played. I think we are getting much better at doing the little things that make teams successful,” Coach Brittany Weber said. “Our energy and our attitudes have been great this week. We're lifting each other up on the court, and our bench is getting involved.”
The Lady Jays’ next games will be in the Mid-States Conference tournament which started on Monday, October 23, and will continue until Thursday October 26.
Junior High Volleyball Plays Crofton

The junior high volleyball teams faced Crofton on the road Thursday, October 12. The 7th grade A team went 1-1 against the Warriors, while the 7th grade B, 8th grade A, and 8th grade B teams went 0-2.
For the 7th grade A team, the Lady Jays won the first set 21-10. Kallie Edins and Ella Gaes each went on long serving runs to aid their team. In the second set, the Lady Jays came close but dropped it 18-21 despite a serving run from Raegan Thiesen.
The 7th grade B team lost their first set to the Warriors by a score of 15-21, and despite serving runs from Isabelle Skrdla and Alena Peters, also lost the second set 17-21.
Seventh grade coach Katie Brummels said, “They played well overall. One of the biggest things we need to work on is communication and rotations. We did in fact have some great serves and rallies.”
The 8th grade A team then took the court, and although the score was close, lost the first set 19-21 despite serving runs from Gina Wragge, Marlie Kroupa, Payten Simmons, and Morgan Blecher. The Warriors found a lot of momentum in the second set and defeated the Lady Jays 8-21.
The 8th grade B team lost their first set 3-21 against the Warriors. They then lost the second set 4-21.
The JH Lady Jays played their final game on Monday, October 16, against Plainview.
