Pierce High Cross Country

Cross Country Competes in Conference Meet, Boys Runner-Up

The Pierce High cross country team traveled to Skyview Lake in Norfolk to compete in the Mid-State Conference meet on Thursday, October 5. The boys came out conference runner-ups barely behind champions Norfolk Catholic.

Individually, Mason Sindelar took 2nd at the meet with a total time of 17:36.17, and Isaac Lambrecht placed 9th with a time of 18:31.90. Cole Vogt placed 11th with a time of 18:46.71, Ian Fisher was right behind him placing 12th in 18:50.25, and Miles Garcia placed 16th with a time of 19:26.43. Colt Arnold placed 36th with a time of 21:53.45, and Dalton Hasse placed 37th behind him with a time of 21:54.37. The only girl on the team, Bridget Raff placed 31st with a time of 21:54.37.

"I was happy with everyone's performance,” said coach Gary Shada. “On the boys’ side we need to change our race strategy a little heading into districts, and I'm hoping that Bridget can have a complete race on that day. This team has really improved this season, and that is what I am pleased with most."

The cross country team’s next meet will be districts on Thursday, October 12.


JH Lady Jays Run Through Last Meet

The junior high girls’ cross country team of Pierce competed at the Yankton Invitational on Tuesday, October 10.

Although team placings were not kept at this meet, for individual placings, Alexus Sindelar got 1st with a time of 15:37.36. Callie Arnold came in 10th with her time of 17:19.73. In 33rd place was Ciara Garcia with a time of 20:17.83, and right behind her in 34th place was Addison Sporleder with a time of 20:24.75.

This meet brought the junior high cross country season to a close, but the team had many accomplishments throughout it. At meets where team scores were kept, the girls finished in 3rd place twice, 4th place, and 5th place, and had several strong individual performances. Coach Gary Shada said of the team’s season, “I was very pleased with how the season went overall. They showed good improvement and had a very positive attitude.”


JH Cross Country Competes at Papillion-LaVista South

Despite wet field conditions, the junior high cross country runners competed Saturday, October 7, at Papillion-La Vista South.

Out of 185 runners from all classes at the meet, Alexus Sindelar got 4th place with a time of 10:48, Callie Arnold got 36th place with a time of 11:53, and Addison Sindelar got 161st place with a time of 14:11.

Coach Gary Shada said, “I was pleased with how everyone ran, considering everything was wet and muddy.”

The junior high cross country girls had their last meet Tuesday, October 10, at Yankton.
