Bluejay Football

Bluejays Crush Eagles

by Morgan Crist

Rainy conditions and resulting game delays couldn’t keep the Bluejay football team down during their Homecoming game. The Jays defeated the O’Neill Eagles on Friday, October 6, with a score of 40-13.

In the first quarter, the Jays fell slightly behind as Collin Tinker of Pierce, scored an 11-yard touchdown and the PAT was failed, while the Eagles managed to score one touchdown and completed the PAT in this quarter.

Collin Tinker had his second touchdown of the night of two yards in the second quarter. O’neill, however, also scored in this quarter to maintain their one-point lead of 12-13 going into halftime.

Two Bluejay touchdowns were scored in the third quarter, and O’neill was unable to make it to the end zone. Dalton Freeman scored a 14-yard touchdown, while C. Tinker had a eight-yard run into the end zone as well.

During the fourth and final quarter, the Jays sealed their victory as Dalton Freeman scored a 62-yard, followed by the two-point conversion from Jadon Magdanz. To finish the game, Freeman scored again, and with Carson Oestreich making the two-point conversion, the Jays finished with a decisive 40-13 win.

Freeman led the Jays in rushing for 161 yards. Magdanz led in receiving, and Brett Tinker, Ashton Wragge, and Ryder Fuchs led the Jays in tackles with 11 each. Fuchs also had two sacks, and B. Tinker and Jakob Meier each had one.

Coach Mark Brahmer said, “I was very pleased with how our guys came out after halftime and played with a tremendous amount of determination and resolve. To sit through an extended halftime under difficult conditions against a talented team and play the way we did in the second half, their efforts are quite commendable. The boys continue to improve and are playing very hard. We will have a challenge this coming Friday night because we will play one of the best overall teams we’ve faced so far this season in West Point-Beemer.”

The football team will play their next game on Friday, October 13, against and at West Point Beemer.
