Lady Jays Take on Mid-States

The Pierce High softball players played in their Mid-State Conference Tournament on Saturday, September 30, against O’Neill and Boone Central/Newman Grove at O’Neill. Unfortunately for Pierce, the Lady Jays lost both of their games with a score of 4-12 against O’Neill and 2-14 against Boone Central Newman Grove.
To start off their day, the Lady Jays played O’Neill. In the first inning, Pierce scored once thanks to a double made by Kaylee Dvorak. However, O’Neill made it home six times in the first inning. Brianna Aguilera hit a single in the second inning, and Pierce managed to scored three times and hold O’Neill to scoring just once in this inning. Neither team scored in the third inning, but in the fourth inning, O’Neill stopped Pierce from scoring and added two more points to their own score. For the fifth and final inning, O’Neill wrapped up the game with three more runs and held off Pierce to take the win.
Pierce played Boone Central/Newman Grove for their second game of the day and finished with a score of 2-14. Pierce came in strong during the first inning with two runs with the help of a double by Annie Johnson and a single hit by Brianna Aguilera. However, in response, seven runs were made by BCNG, while Pierce was unable to score or hit for the second inning. In the third inning, BCNG added five more points to their score and once again held off Pierce from scoring. In the fourth and final inning, BCNG finished the game with one last run and allowed Pierce no more runs.
Despite the losses in the conference tournament, the Lady Jays remain positive. Coach Cady Reinke said of the girl’s performance, “They were focused on being disciplined in the batter's box and letting balls go past, so hitting was definitely a highlight of the week.”
The Lady Jays will play in districts on Thursday, October 5, and continue on Friday, October 6, at West Point-Beemer.
