Pierce Offers Financial Aid Webinar
by Montana Ruppert
PHS juniors and seniors had the opportunity to attended a Financial Aid Webinar at Pierce High School in the band room on Monday, September 18.
Every fall, around the time when seniors start filling out their college applications, every high school in the state has a financial aid meeting for juniors and seniors and their parents to help understand federal loans and grants for college. In the last two years, the meeting has been held through a webinar that comes from Education Quest in Omaha. The webinar explains the process of applying for financial aid from the federal government, and then students and parents can ask questions at the end. Any student who attended was eligible for a $500 scholarship. There were eight other small high schools in the webinar, and Pierce had the second highest attendance rate with 21 families at the meeting.
Guidance counselor Mrs. Mary Birch, who coordinated Pierce’s webinar said, “Schools have this meeting because the process can be overwhelming and confusing if you are trying to figure it out on your own. We have materials that we hand out at the meeting so parents and students can follow along with the webinar.”
