Pierce High Lady Jays Softball

SB Lady Jays Soar Over Cardinals

The Pierce High Lady Jays defeated the South Sioux City Cardinals in softball at the home of the Jays on Saturday, September 16. The Lady Jays dominated the Cardinals with a score of 12-3 in their parents’ day game.

In the first inning, neither team scored, but Brianna Aguilera hit a single for the Lady Jays. During the second inning, Addison Johnson had a single, but the Lady Jays were unable to capitalize. Meanwhile, the Cardinals managed to score once to bring the score to 0-1 after two.

For the third inning, Pierce had two runs courtesy of Annie Johnson, who hit a single, and Kaylee Dvorak, who hit a homerun. The Lady Jays were also able to hold off the Cardinals from scoring and took the lead 2-1. In the fourth inning, Kaycie Druyor made it home for the Lady Jays, while the Cardinals scored twice to tie the game at 3. Courtney Yawn had a single in the fifth inning, but neither team could score. For the sixth and final inning, Pierce exploded offensively and scored nine times to seal their victory. These runs were made by Annie Johnson, Aguilera, Kiley Bierman, Yawn, Maggie Dale, Addison Johnson, who had two of these runs, and Druyor who also had two runs. Aguilera also hit a single during this inning, as did Addison Johnson, who had two singles, and Dale, who had one single. The Cardinals were unable to catch up in this inning with no additional runs to their score.

Coach Cady Reinke said, “The girls didn’t come off strong, but they finished strong. Knowing they can do that makes me anxious to finish up the season these last couple weeks.”  

The Lady Jays will play their next game Thursday, September 21, at Leigh against Highway 91.


SB Lady Jays Fight the Blue Devils and Cardinals in Softball

The Lady Jays’ softball team took on Wayne and Boone Central/Newman Grove in a triangular and were unable to defeat either team on Tuesday, September 12, at the home of the Cardinals.

For their first game, the Lady Jays played Wayne and were swept 0-14. In the first inning, Pierce was unable to score, and Wayne made it home thirteen times. During the second inning, the Blue Devils held the Bluejays back from scoring while managing to score one more time. Neither team scored in the third inning before the game was called due to the run rule.

The Lady Jays played the Cardinals for their second and final game of the day and lost with a close score of 8-9. In the first inning, Kaylee Dvorak, Kiley Bierman, and Brianna Aguilera each had a run while the Cardinals scored twice. During the second inning, Addison Johnson scored once, but Boone Central pulled ahead and scored six times. To start of the third inning, Dvorak and Aguilera scored another two runs, and Kiley Bierman had a hit. The Cardinals made it home twice during this inning. In the fourth inning neither team was able to score, but in the fifth and final inning, two walks added to the Lady Jays’ score while Aguilera had a hit that brought her teammate home. The Cardinals were held off by the Lady Jays and were unable to score this inning, but BCNG still came out on top 8-9.

Coach Cady Reinke said, “We saw a variety of pitchers and we adjusted well to both of them, and that will help us by being prepared for all types of pitching.”

The Lady Jays will play next against Highway 91 on Thursday, September 21, at Leigh.
