Varsity Bluejays Conquer Arlington

The varsity football team traveled to Arlington on Friday, September 15. The Bluejays came out with the win 42-24 to improve their record to 2-2.

In the first quarter of the game, the Jays started out slow. They allowed Arlington one run along with a two-point conversion, with the Jays being left scoreless.

In the next quarter, Pierce picked up their offense and defense. Collin Tinker had a 27-yard touchdown run, and Carson Oestreich had a five-yard touchdown run with Brett Tinker making the two-point conversion after the touchdown. Also contributing to the Jays’ score was Ashton Wragge who had a 17-yard touchdown run with Devan Roth making the extra point. A 15-yard touchdown pass from C. Tinker to Dalton Freeman with Devan Roth’s point after added another seven to the Jays’ total. Arlington could not keep up with the Jays this quarter and were scoreless. Heading into halftime, the score was 28-8.

Coming out of halftime, the Jays scored another 14 points. Freeman had two touchdown runs that were 34 and 56 yards with Devan Roth making the extra point after each. The Jays allowed Arlington only two touchdowns and two two-point conversions the rest of the game. At the end of the game, the score read 42-24 with the Jays coming out ahead.

Individually, Freeman led the team in rushing yards with 90, and Collin Tinker had 68. In pass receiving, Oestreich lead the Jays with 25, and Dysen Roth had 19. B. Tinker and Dawson Weber each had a fumble recovery.

The varsity Bluejays’ next game with be held at Memorial Stadium in Norfolk against the Norfolk Catholic Knights on Thursday, September 21, at 7 p.m.


Jays Pick Up First Win Over Shamrocks

The Pierce High football team played the Columbus Scotus Shamrocks Friday, September 8, at home. The Bluejays beat the Shamrocks 63-32 to get their first win of the season.

In the first quarter, the Jays took an early lead, outscoring the Shamrocks 13-7. Collin Tinker ran in a 65-yard touchdown run, with an extra point made by Devan Roth. The Shamrocks answered with a 28-yard touchdown of their own, but before the end of the quarter, Carson Oestreich capped off a drive with a one-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter, C. Tinker continued the Jays’ scoring with a five-yard touchdown run, with a successful two-point conversion made by Brett Tinker. Then, Oestreich had a 57-yard touchdown run, with an extra point scored by Devan Roth. The Shamrocks managed a field goal before the end of the half, but the Jays remained on top after a strong second quarter, bringing them to halftime with a score of 28-10.

In the third quarter of the game, Dalton Freeman scored 47-yard touchdown run for the Jays, with an extra point made by Devan Roth. The Shamrocks got into the end zone for another touchdown, but B. Tinker answered with a seven-yard touchdown run, with an extra point scored by Devan Roth. The Shamrocks scored once more before the end of the quarter to make the score 42-24 going into the final minutes.

In the last quarter, C. Tinker scored a 15-yard touchdown run, with an extra point made by Devan Roth. Freeman then had a 46-yard pass to Gavin Larson for a touchdown, with another extra point made by Devan Roth. Ashton Wragge scored a 42-yard touchdown run, with an extra point scored by Devan Roth. Although the Shamrocks saw the end zone one more time, the Jays were able to come out on top with a solid victory 63-32.

Individually, C. Tinker rushed for 185 yard and three touchdowns. Freeman followed close behind and rushed 105 yards. Larson lead in pass receiving yards with 61 yards, and Dysen Roth followed with 24 yards. Freeman had one interception, and Roth had one fumble recovery.

The Jays next game will be Friday, September 16, at Arlington.


JH Football plays O’Neill

The junior high football teams opened their season as they played O’Neill on Tuesday, September 12, at the Blue Devils’ home field. The 7th grade Bluejays beat the Blue Devils with a score of 38-14, while the 8th grade Bluejays lost 6-46.

During the 7th grade game, Ben Brahmer had a total of five touchdowns. Tristan Kuehler made a two-point conversion. To finish off the game, Karter Wolfe scored another touchdown. With the Jays allowing one touchdown, this put the final score as 38-6.

For the 8th grade team, Michael Kruntorad scored one touchdown of 65 yards during the game. They were unable to score the rest of the game and the final score was 6-46.

Coach Lester Piper, one of the junior high coaches, said that he is looking forward to upcoming games “To see, a lot of improvement especially just going out and being more aggressive after they got a game under their belt. I think they’ll have better execution now that they’re more comfortable.”

The junior high will play their next game on Tuesday, September 26, at Boone Central.


JV Football Finishes Season With Win

The Pierce JV football team traveled to Hartington on Monday, September 11. They defeated the Cedar Catholic Trojans 34-8.

In the first half of the game, the Jays scored 20 points. Carson Oestreich had a 60-yard touchdown run, David Dale had a four-yard touchdown run, and Devan Roth had a 20-yard touchdown reception. Roth made the extra point for two of the touchdowns scored. The Trojans were not able to score against the Bluejays’ defense. The score heading into halftime was 20-0.

In the second half of the game, the Jays did not let let up and scored two more touchdowns, both from Oestreich. The first one was a 72-yard run and the second one was a 44-yard run. Roth made the extra point after each touchdown. The Trojans managed to get one touchdown against the Jays along with a two point conversion to leave the final score of the game at 34-8.

This game concluded the JV Bluejays’ football season. They finished 2-0.


F-S Football Team Shuts Out Scotus

 

The freshman-sophomore football team traveled to Columbus to face the Scotus Shamrocks on Thursday, September 7. The Jays came home with a 14-0 victory.

Scoring both of the Jays’ touchdowns was freshman David Dale. Chaden Roth kicked both extra points.

The next freshman-sophomore game will be held Monday, September 25, at home against Crofton with kickoff at 5:30.
