The Pierce varsity volleyball team traveled to Columbus High School where they played a preseason jamboree game Thursday, August 17. The Lady Jays lost 2 sets to 3.

The first set ended with a win by Columbus High 25-15. Pierce came back to win the next two sets 25-20 and 25-21. In the fourth set, Pierce fell short to Columbus with a score of 25-20, and the last set Columbus took the win 15-12, ending the game with a 3 out of 5 set win by Columbus.

Overall, the volleyball team did best in blocking. Maggie Brahmer led the team with five assisted blocks. Brahmer also had 12 kills and only two errors. Sidney Zimmerer led the team in digs. She had 22 digs and only five errors. Zimmerer was also targeted 22 times for serve receive. Kayla Simmons had 12 setting assists and only four errors. Going forward into regular season play, the team plans on working on their consistency and lowering their game errors.

Head coach Brittany Weber said, “Overall, we were very pleased with what we saw on Thursday. We are very mobile in the back row, so we will pick up balls that we couldn’t in recent years. We also have a lot of very good hitters, giving us a balanced attack offensively. Before the Norfolk Catholic game, we will have to work on minimizing our errors.”

The volleyball team will play on Thursday, August 31, at 5:30 p.m. at Norfolk Catholic.
