Cross Country Starts its Season

by Ian Fisher

Cross country started their season with the first official day of practice Monday, August 7, at Pierce High School.

The cross country team has a total of twelve runners between the junior and senior high teams. For seventh graders, there are two girls: Addison Sporleder and Ciara Garcia. Callie Arnold and Alexus Sindelar are the eighth graders.

There are eight high school runners this year. Freshmen are Bridget Raff, Colt Arnold, Mason Sindelar, and Miles Garcia. The lone sophomore is Cole Vogt. Isaac Lambrecht and Dalton Haase are the two Juniors. Finally, the senior on the team is Ian Fisher. The returning letter winners for the season are Lambrecht, Fisher, and Haase.

For summer training, the cross country team ran four times a week and started plyometric and weight training on June 1. Coach Gary Shada is looking forward to seeing how plyometric and an extra day of running works for the season.

Coach Shada said, “I am looking forward for the season and anxious to see how we stack up against our competition this year.”

The team's first competition is Friday, September 1, at the Albion golf course.
