Erickson Attends FCCLA Conference

Erickson Attends FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville.

Sydney Erickson of Pierce, NE joined more than 7,500 FCCLA student leaders,
members, and advisers at the Music City Center in Nashville, TN, July 2nd-6th to
participate in the annual Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America
(FCCLA) National Leadership Conference.
Sydney will be a 10th grader this fall at Pierce Jr. Sr. High School.  She is the
daughter of Joel and Heidi Erickson.
This past spring Sydney was selected to be a Nebraska State Peer Officer for the
2017-2018 school year.  She is serving as the Chairman of the Financial Fitness
Team and also the Overall Coordinator for the State Peer Officer Teams.  At
National Leadership Conference she was responsible for introducing the members of
the peer officer teams to the Nebraska delegates during a state meeting.  She also
invited all the delegates to visit the Peer Officer Teams' booth created for the
conference to help promote peer education.  One of the highlights of the conference
for Sydney was serving as an evaluator for STAR where she interviewed and
reviewed student projects.  Over 4,200 students participated in STAR (Students
Take Action for Recognition), which is competitive events where members are
recognized for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects,
leadership skills, and career preparation.
The conference provided student leaders the opportunity to listen to inspiring
speakers, attend learning sessions, compete on the national level, and network with
other leaders.  The theme of this year's conference was "Unlimited
Possibilities," which inspired attendees to discover the unlimited possibilities within
their reach while exploring career opportunities, developing leadership skills, and
growing personally while making a difference in their families and communities.
Family, Career, and Community Leaders of American (FCCLA) is a dynamic and
effective career and technical student organization that helps young men and
women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal
issues through family and consumer sciences education.  FCCLA has more than
164,000 members and more than 5,300 chapters from 49 state associations, in
addition to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
