PHS Musicians Perform in District Music Contest

Travelling to the Norfolk Senior High School on Friday, April 21, the Pierce High School band and choir performed in solos and small- and large-group ensembles.

The concert band, jazz band, and percussion ensemble all received superior ratings. The concert band also received a superior. The concert and jazz band received a plaque for scoring all one’s.

PHS band members who received a superior rating in their solos were: Katrina Meier (Piano), Devin Kerber (Baritone Saxophone), Abbey Sedlacek (Trumpet), and Junior Aguilar (Trombone). These PHS soloists received an excellent rating: Amber Albrecht (Clarinet), Alexander Kesting (Alto Saxophone), Katrina Meier (Oboe). Janae Arens(Flute) and Ellie Peters (Flute) performed a duet and received a superior rating. The Brass Quintet of Abbey Sedlacek, Junior Aguilar, Jacob Kuester, Kyler Peters, and Grace Spieker also received a superior. The Saxophone Quartet received an excellent rating and included Bryce Bierman, Jordyn Bullock, Devin Kerber, Alexander Kesting. Also receiving a superior rating, the Percussion Ensemble consisted of Jeremiah Kruntorad, Maiya Baumann, Breanne Hoffman, Samantha Svendsen, Derek Ross, Mark Venteicher, and Dylan Delka. The clarinet ensemble of Abigail White, Destini Beckner, Hoffman, Marie Stone, Madison Siedschlag, Albrecht, Stephanie Rinkel, and Kiley Bierman received a superior.

Band director Mike Sindt said, “I could not be any prouder of the outstanding musicianship that our band members showed on Friday.”

The Pierce High school choir also performed in a concert choir and in several small groups. The concert choir received an excellent rating.

Sydney Erickson and Garrett Longe each received a superior rating in their solos. Montana Ruppert, Abbey Sedlacek, and Ian Fisher received an excellent in each of their solos. Ian Fisher and Devan Roth performed a duet and received an excellent rating. Maiya Baumann, Sydney Erickson, and Emilia Goetsch performed a trio together and received a superior as well.

The trio of Dylan Delka, Koby Kuper, and Caleb Sullivan received an excellent. The group numbers “Sigh No More Ladies” by the freshman girls and “Dance On My Heart” by the sophomore girls both received superiors. The Pierce women’s glee received an excellent rating, and the Pierce men’s glee received a superior rating.

Head director of the choir, Terri Haselhorst, said, “The kids were challenged and worked really hard, and the results reflected their work.”
