Pierce Bluejays Compete at Knights of Columbus Track Meet

The Pierce Bluejay track team headed to Columbus to compete at the Knights of Columbus track meet hosted by Scotus on Tuesday, April 11. The boys’ team won the meet with a total of 119 points, and the girls took home 4th place with 67 points.

For the girls’ field events, Maggie Brahmer took home 1st place in high jump with a final height of 5’2”, and Katrina Meier got 6th place with 4’8”. In long jump, Ellie Moeller placed 5th with a jump of 14’9”. Carly Sutherland got 3rd place in triple jump with a jump of 32’1.5”, and Brianna Aguilera got 5th in shot with a throw of 35’2”. In discus, Sutherland got 3rd place with a throw of 117’7”, and Kaylee Dvorak placed 4th right behind her with a throw of 114’4”. For running events, Maiya Baumann placed 6th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 28.73. Brahmer won the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.27, and Grace Spieker got 3rd with a time of 17.67. Brahmer and Spieker also took home 3rd and 6th place in the 300 hurdles with times of 51.37 and. 53.75, respectively. In the relays, the team consisting of Emily Simmons, Brahmer, Spieker, and Baumann got 3rd place in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 56.05. In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Abbey Fuerhoff, Angelica Volquardsen, Katrina Meier, and Spieker placed 4th with a time of 4:51.07. The 4x800-meter relay consisting of Simmons, Fuerhoff, Meier, and Abbey Sedlacek placed 5th with a time of 12:05.24.

For the boys’ field events, Braydan Waldner placed 1st in high jump with a final jump of 5’10”, and Brady Simmons got 2nd place and also jumped 5’10”. In long jump, Collin Tinker took home 2nd with a jump of 19’10.5”, and Gavin Larson got 4th in triple jump with a jump of 38’3”. Also placing in triple jump was Ian Fisher with a jump of 37’11.75”. In the running events, Walker Raabe and Tinker placed 1st and 2nd in the 100-meter dash with times of 11.35 and 11.58, respectively. In the 200-meter dash, Raabe placed 1st with a time of 22.75, and Dalton Freeman got 3rd with a time of 23.6. For the 400, Freeman placed 2nd with a time of 52.99. In the 800-meter run, Waldner won a close race with his final time being 2:09.33, and Cole Vogt placed 3rd with a time of 2:13.85. In the 300 hurdles, Carson Oestreich placed 4th with a time of 43.42. In the relays, the 4x100-meter relay team consisting of Freeman, Tinker, Raabe, and Oestreich won with a time of 44.71. In the 4x400-meter relay, the team of Raabe, Waldner, Tinker, and Freeman got 2nd and with a time of 3:37.47. And in the 4x800-meter relay, the team of Isaac Lambrecht, Fisher, Jadon Magdanz, and Vogt placed 2nd with a time of 8:58.62.

“I thought we competed well,” Coach Tim Waldner said. “Everyone showed themselves, and we had quite a few PRs even though we had some injuries. This is always one of the tougher meets because we compete against bigger schools. Our boys won it, and we haven’t done that for awhile, so that’s a pretty big deal. And our girls scored some good points for placing 4th. I think we kept up with the competition pretty well.”

The Bluejays’ next track meet will be the Tom Martin Invitational held in Pierce on Thursday, April 20
