JH Band Receives Superior at Band Festival

Thirteen different performances from Pierce JH and Zion students were displayed at the Norfolk JH Band Festival on Saturday, April 8. The performances included many different groups like a full band composition, ensembles, a septet, quartets, trios, duets, and solos that received mostly superior ratings. Also, for the nineteenth year in a row, the Pierce Junior High band received straight superior ratings at the Norfolk Junior High Music Festival.
Elizabeth Hammer, Callie Arnold, and Sarah Fenton played in a clarinet trio and received a superior rating. Angel Heisinger, Julia Polt, Chloey Cederburg, and Morgan Blecher received superior in their flute quartet. Rebecca Albrecht, MaKinzie Parsons, and Shawn Zellmer won superior in their saxophone trio. The Zion JH Band played in a mixed septet and won a participation award. Abby Meier and Brynnlee Marks won superior in their flute/clarinet duet. A superior rating trumpet duet consisting of Taylor Miller and Alexus Sindelar. Kennedy Warneke and Gina Wragge received a superior in their baritone duet. Ayden Thelen, Chris Efta, and Nick Erickson got a superior in their trombone trio. The percussion ensemble consisting of Payten Simmons, Kyli Beckner, Cruz Gleason, Blake Beckner, and Zach Price received a superior rating. Cruz Gleason and Blake Beckner got a participation rating in their snare drum duet. Jaden Jones got a superior on his baritone solo and Alexus Sindelar got a superior on her trumpet solo.
Band director Mr. Sindt said “These young musicians really stepped it up for this performance. I was proud of how much they improved over the past few weeks.”
