Speech Team Wins Conference Tournament

The Pierce High School speech team received their sixth consecutive win at the Mid-State Conference meet. On Saturday, February 25, the competitors for Pierce’s speech team each received superior ratings along with 12 individual medals, allowing them to capture 1st place.

There were 12 medaling entries for Pierce. In persuasive speaking, Shianna Oestreich received 1st while Junior Aguilar followed closely behind with 2nd. Macie Timm and Janae Arens took 3rd place in duet acting with Derek Ross and Bryce Bierman securing 1st place. Emily Simmons took 2nd place in informative, and Abi White took 4th. Third place in entertainment was taken by Chance White. Morgan Crist placed 3rd in Poetry. The OID of Junior Aguilar, Breane Hoffman, Shianna Oestreich, and Emily Simmons received 3rd place. Hoffman also placed in serious prose with a 4th place ranking. Bryce Bierman placed 5th in humorous prose. Katrina Meier competed in extemporaneous speaking and received 5th place.

Also earning team points by getting superior ratings in preliminary competition were Jordan Bullock in poetry and entertainment, Abi White in informative, Ethen Kuether in extemporaneous, Rose Graham in serious prose, and the OID of Dylan Delka, Grace Spieker, Macie Timm, Abi White, and Chance White.

Additionally, the duet of Bryce Bierman and Derek Ross, as well as Shianna Oestreich, were named to the All-Conference team for winning their respective events.

Pierce will continue their speech season on Saturday, March 4, as they showcase their events  at the high school beginning at 5 p.m. The event is open to the public.
