Speech Team Places 1st in Hartington

The Pierce junior varsity and varsity speech teams traveled to Hartington on Saturday, January 28, for Hartington-Newcastle/Cedar Catholic High School’s speech meet. The varsity placed 1st, and the JV placed 3rd.

There were eleven individual medalists for the varsity speech team. Junior Aguilar placed 1st in Persuasive Speaking. Breane Hoffman placed 1st in Serious Prose. Placing 2nd in Humorous Prose was Chance White. In OID, Junior Aguilar, Breane Hoffman, Shianna Oestreich, and Emily Simmons placed 2nd. Janae Arens and Macie Timm placed 2nd in Duet Acting. Bryce Bierman and Derek Ross placed 3rd in Duet Acting. Placing 3rd in Informative Speaking was Abi White. Shianna Oestreich placed 4th in Persuasive Speaking. Placing 4th in Extemporaneous Speaking was Katrina Meier. Ethen Kuether placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking. Janae Arens placed 5th in Serious Prose.

For junior varsity there, were eight placers. Sydney Erickson placed 2nd in Informative Speaking. Alex McKeown placed 3rd in Extemporaneous Speaking. Placing 3rd in Serious Prose was Rose Graham. Katrina Meier placed 4th in Informative Speaking. Cayden Retzlaff placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking. Placing 5th in Humorous Prose was Emilia Goetsch. Alex McKeown placed 6th in Serious Prose. Placing 6th in Oral Interpretation of Drama was the team of Kiley Bierman, Elizabeth Harris, Halle Ross, and Sydney Slater.

The speech team will be traveling to West Point for the Guardian Angel Central Catholic meet Saturday, February 4.
