Pierce Wrestlers Compete

Pierce Wrestling Duels Plainview

The Pierce High wrestling team traveled to Plainview on Thursday, January 12, for a duel against the Pirates. The Bluejays had only six matches due to empty weight slots on both teams and ended up losing the duel 45-36.

In the six matches that were wrestled, at 120, Jeremiah Kruntorad lost to Dominique Rickard by tech fall in the third period 17-0; at 138, Brodey Peters lost by major decision to Trenton Steinkraus 11-2; at 145, Zane Gleason fell to Christian Miller in the first period; at 152, Brett Tinker fell to Cole Aschoff in the first period; and finally at 195, Dylan Kuehler fell to Collin Gale in the first period.

Coach Tyler Legate said, “We only had six matches, but the guys wrestled well. We look forward to competing this weekend."

Wrestling was back in action in a Battle Creek tournament on Saturday, January 14, and will travel back to Battle Creek for another dual on Thursday, January 19.

 

Wrestlers Compete at Battle Creek

 

The Bluejay wrestling team hit the mats at the Battle Creek Invite on Saturday, January 14. The team placed 9th out of 18 teams.Medaling for the Jays were Cody Yawn (1st), Ryder Fuchs (3rd), Jeremiah Kruntorad (4th), Brett Tinker (4th), and Dylan Kuehler (7th). At 106, Jayden Sporleder was pinned by Koby Ellis of Winside in his first match and Lane Dame of Winside in his second match.

Wrestling at 120, Jeremiah Kruntorad won his first match by fall over Levi Jackson of Laurel-Concord/Coleridge and pinned Gage Klug of Stanton in his second match. Kruntorad was pinned by Alejandro Martinez of Elkhorn Valley in his third match and lost the 3rd-place match to Justin Noel of Scriber-Snyder 1-2.

Jordan Sims wrestled at 126. He was pinned by Charlie Lopez of Wakefield and Damien Kersten of Battle Creek.

Cody Yawn went undefeated at 132 by pinning Mitchel Petersen of Elkhorn Valley, Thad Hazen of Creighton, Reece McFarland of Crofton-Bloomfield, and Ty Heimes of Battle Creek.

At 138, Brodey Peters fell to Josh McMillen of Scriber-Snyder 5-10 and was pinned by Preston Bussey of Battle Creek. Peters won his final match over Morgan Koch of Hartington CC by pin.

Brett Tinker, at 145, pinned Jarrin Sage of Crofton Bloomfield and defeated Ryan Molacek of Howells/Dodge 11-4. Tinker was pinned by Noah Scott of Randolph in his next match and fell in the 3rd-place match to Joshua McFarland of Elkhorn Valley by decision 0-7.

Coltin Bauer wrestled at 170. Bauer was pinned by Trevor Lenton of Norfolk, lost by decision to Alec Zimmerer of Creighton 3-6, and was pinned by Eric Hoesing of Hartington CC.

At 182, Ryder Fuchs pinned Austin Arens of Hartington CC but lost in his next match to Michael Hegge of Ponca by fall. Fuchs won the 3rd-place match by pin over Marcus Love of Howells/Dodge.

Dylan Kuehler, at 195, lost his first match by pin to Austin Marx of Battle Creek but pinned Tim Heiner of Ponca in his second match. In the championship bracket, Kuehler was pinned by Wyatt Schmitt of Battle Creek but won the 7th-place match by pin over Xavier Antuna of Elkhorn Valley.

Wrestling at 220, Jacob Kerber was pinned by Moises Barboza of Wakefield, Garett Ladwig of Norfolk, Jordan Shakespeare of Niobrara/Verdigre, Curtis Eickhoff of Battle Creek, and Sam Brickett of Ponca.

Wrestling unattached, Zane Gleason at 138 went 0-2 for the day.

The Bluejays’ next tournament will be Saturday, January 21, at Aurora.
